Who here has lost a beloved pet?

I have had several pets in my life. I had a grey short-haired tuxedo cat named Taz. Taz was a female. We only had her two years but she gave us so much laughs and love in those two years.
Her mother was a stray who found her way into our storage closet and she gave birth there. When it was time for animal control to pick up the cat and litter, we kept one of them.
Taz was thee most awesome cat. She never jumped on anything she should. She never ate table food. But, she did love tuna. Whenever she heard the can opener, she ran into the kitchen and stayed there until she got some tuna. She loved Tuna. She loved to climb into my son's crib and sleep with him. When he was born, she always laid right next to him on my bed and they both fell asleep together. She protected him. When my son got older, he would pull on her ears and her fur but she didn't care. She allowed him to do all that. She must have known he was a baby and meant no harm.
One evening she didn't come inside and our neighbor told us later our cat was laying in the street gutter. She was alive but crying out in pain. She had been hit by a car. I drove her to the animal hospital. My two daughters went with me. My oldest daughter said it didn't matter what it cost, she would pay for our cat to be taken care of. However, the doctor said even if our cat survived the surgery, she would be paralyzed from her waist down. We cried and cried, but me and my kids were in agreement that's not how Taz should be. She loved to play outside and was very playful. she loved baths and such. We decided to put her to sleep. We were there as they put the shot into her that would eventually cause her death. She looked at me and I could tell she was in agony. I cried and cried and saw her slowly stop breathing. I cried for over two weeks. It was very hard. I never want to have to go thru that again. She was the perfect cat. She knew her place, never made noise, never made a mess. I miss her very much. She died in December of 2002.
I never knew what people went thru when they lost a pet until I went thru it. I keep a picture of her on our family wall of pictures. She was family.

I've lost many pets over the years, and it's broken my heart everytime. I remember one little terrier mix that my family had since before I was born, her name was Tinkerbell. She lived to be 20 years old and never ran away. One day I noticed she was acting kind of draggy, like she just didn't feel well. Later that night she was nowhere to be found. We looked all over the place along with several people from my neighborhood. One of those neighbors found her lying still behind a DP&L staion, apparently she left to go and die. It was very sad, and very odd! It almost seemed she wanted to spare us from seeing her die. I never forgot her in particular. I loved that dog, she let me do everything to her, right down to dressing her up in a ballerina tutu. Poor thing, she died years ago, but she will always be loved and missed.

When I was 6 years old (Spring of 1992) we had an orange cat we named Milo (named after the cat in the movie "The Adventures of Milo and Otis." My sister, who was 7 at the time, was holding him right next to the street and he wanted to get off. He got out but then a truck got him. He had to be euthanized because the damage to his leg was irreparable. It didn't affect me a lot for some reason but my sister was really devastated because it happened right in front of her. I am not mad at her because at that age, kids love to hold cats and dogs a lot. If anything like that happened to my other cats, it would definitely affect me because I am more close to them than what happened to Milo.

I can deffinately understand how your sister could have been a bit scarred from that. When I was about 5, I saw my dad put down a kitten with distemper in a gruesome but quick way. He told me to go before he did it, and i did, but at the last minute I was so distressed about the kitten that I went back to save it. I didn't get there in time save her and I saw what my dad did to her. I was sooooo mad at my dad after that, but I was 5 and he was trying to end her suffering the quickest way he could. I don't even think that he recovered from it. I brought it up to him last week as a matter of fact, he was shocked that I even saw it or remembered. But he told me that it had eaten him up every since, and it has me too! I can't even watch a movie where an animal gets hurt or killed, the fiction doesn't set in for me, I always remember the poor little kitten

I lost my cat a year ago and was very depressed for a while. I got a great dog now.

I had my own cat.. he was a hunting cat so he crossed roads.... and he got hit by one I was so upset for a while..

3 dogs, 8 birds, 3 hamsters. Currently we have 5 dogs and a cat and I worry myself to the point of becoming sick thinking of them getting hurt.

we just got a stray kitty that came to our door in August it was a funny story.....My mom was all drunk and this cat came up to her and started meowing so she gave him milk and she thought that it was boots my neighbors cat because it looked like him...and my neighbors werent home (their our good friends) so she opened the door and threw him in thinking he was their cat. the next day my friend malory (the neighbor) called my house to tell me to come over and see the kitty she found in her house but my mom answered first and was like malory boots was outside cryin so i put him in your house....and malory was like that was nice of you laur but that wasn't boots lmao so my mom just threw this stray cat in their house...anyways malory ended up puttin the cat back outside and we felt bad for it and kept him

his name is Rubzy and we keep him inside because we got him declawed so if he ever gets out he'll be dead cause he cant protect himself now.... i looooove RUBZERS!

Two cats (1994 - 1998 and 1994 - 2004)

Out of them all, I really miss the latter cat...the one that died last year. She was such a sweetie...very much of a lover. I watched her slowly die in front of my eyes and it was very painful.

I used to have a kitten that was only 2 years old, named "Boots". One christmas while I was vacationing in Brazil with my mom to visit my family. We left my moms best friend in charge of the cats. Boots got out, got hit by a car, died instantly. Next day my sister called us on CHRISTMAS DAY and told us she found boots completely smushed down the street of our house. We had the worst christmas ever I'll never forget him, and I miss him.

Personally, I've lost one dog amny years ago. However my sister's dog (who I felt VERY close to as well) died this morning.

I arrived at my sister's the day she got Ags 11 years ago. We pulled her through a bout of Parvo within the first 2 weeks she had Ags (I was there for the entire summer). As Ags got older she blew her knee out and had to have surgery. A few years back she had tumors (non cancerous) start popping out on her ears. A couple years ago she started getting seizures...they never could figure out why although she was put on meds so it wouldn't be as bad. Then last year I guess it was, Ags was diagnosed with some disease (I don't remember what) that the vets said she would die of eventually even though it wasn't hurting her at all yet.

So this morning around 6:30, we received a call from my sister sounding hysterical. She had found Ags dead this morning next to my sister's bed curled up in a ball looking peaceful.

At times like this, I hate leving so far away from the rest of the family. Where it would take me over 6 hours to get there, my brother was able to be there in less than 2. I"m glad he lives close to her and was able to get up there to help her out.

Anyway...I'm glad this thread was up so I could get this off my chest.

We've lost some pets over the years. Five dogs: Sugar, Cracker, Runt, Lefty, and Wino (weird names huh?) One bird: Prettyboy and one cat: Bandit.
Sugar was pretty old (around 14 I think). I went downstairs one morning and saw my mom laying in the floor with Sugar, crying. I was six so I just ran upstairs and told my dad we needed to take her to the vet. She was gone later that day. We had Lefty for a while, and he was chewing up a lot of things so my dad thought it was time for him to go on a chain outside with the others. He was too little and he hung himself. Wino was a good dog. A very protective german sheperd, he wouldn't let anyone near me unless he knew them well. I remember my dad said he ate some sort of rat poison in our backyard someone threw there. Bandit was a lazy cat and couldn't run that fast. To put it this way, someones dog got a hold of him. Prettyboy was the weirdest bird I had ever seen. Whenever I was gone, he would always holler my name until I answered back, and if somebody raised their voice he would start cussing! In 2003, I noticed he was breathing heavily and wheezing. We took him to the vet and he passed a week later. Runt was 15 years old. We had her since my brother was little, he picked her out. (You can guess why her name was Runt). There is this wall in our backyard that she always ran up and jumped off of. I guess she got excited when my brother came home, and she jumped off the wall and snapped her neck and hung. My brother was the one that found her, body was still warm. Not a good way to start the summer. Cracker was getting really sick after that because was used to being with Runt. He died two days before school started last year.
When Runt died, my dad brought home this german sheperd named Carol. She was a gaurd dog at his auto shop, before that she had been abused all her life. She's the sweetest dog, and I've grown close to her, she even sleeps in my bed! I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to her or any of my other pets.

So sad to read the other posts here. This has become such a sad thread, but it's very nice to know we all have one thing in common: love for our pets!


BTW Brian, I too love that movie Milo and Otis. I have it on DVD. Ever since that movie came out, I wanted a pug. I collected pug pics, etc. Well, my boyfriend bought me a pug for my birthday two years ago. I wanted to name him Otis but I was outvoted by my kids. So, Duke is his name and I dread the day I have to see him go to "Doggy Heaven". I love him to death. He is so cute. everywhere I take him, people want to touch him, pet him and they always say, "Hey, there's that dog from Men in Black" (the movie) LOL

So sorry Ags, how awful. Wow, i post this thread today and this is a day that your sister loses her beloved pet. I am sorry. I know what it's like. I know there are alot of pet lovers out there. I was thinking of my precious Taz today and decided to make this thread.
