Default 5 Mission Impossibles on a single DVD???

Ok, I'm not as particular as some of you folks here, but I still prefer getting good quality shows whenever possible. An Unknown-To-Me trader (I posted a trader check in the feedback area & have searched this forum & the 'net with no results showing if he's considered a good trader or not) asked to trade a few episodes of Mission Impossible. He's transferring from VHS to DVD & has put eps 1-5 on one DVD & 6-10 on another & 11-13 on another. What is the consensus here of putting 5 1 hour shows (I don't know if commercials are included or not) on a singe DVD, especially when transferring from VHS? I know I'm not nearly as experienced as many of you here, but everytime I've received 1 hour shows in trade, there are 3-4 episodes (maximum) on each DVD. I would like to continue with this trade but I also don't want to receive junk & be in the same boat Agent13 was in a few weeks ago. Or am I overreacting?

Thanks for your advice on this one.

Default You are right.

We are able to keep dvd length at 2 hours or less so why not do it? If you don't care about quality OK, but I, for one do. And if you do you should not accept lower quality in a trade.

Since they were recorded onto VHS they are probably older airings, and if 5 eps fit on a disc w/ads removed they're probably cut up. Sounds like the old FX airings, which were horrible. There's plenty of people with more recent, uncut airings, done 2/disc, so I'd pass on this offer and search out the better set. There are at least 3 people right here at SO who have them on their lists.

Default sample disc

Id ask for a sample disc
ive gotten some dvd sets that have 6 one hour shows per disc that are great quality, b/c the person mastered them really well and had high quality, others i got are really bad

so id ask for a sample disc first and check and see before u commit, a real trader should have no problem in doing that, if he wont do it, then he is not a good trader! ive got MISSION IMPOSSIBLE season 1-4 on dvd, quality about an 8 that was done up well, id love to get the other seasons from anyone who might have em, so let me know folks!!!

If the episodes are coming from VHS they probably are not that great to begin with. 5 one hour shows even with the commercials cut out will not look that good compressed onto one DVD. If you get a retail disc with 4 one hour shows and compress it to fit onto one DVD-R single layer disc it will not really look that much different because the source was very good to begin with. I have a mission impossible set and it has 2-3 episodes per disc, looks good.

Thanks, everyone for your input. I decided to not confirm this trade. I'm certainly willing to accept "good" quality shows (probably most of my shows are in the "good to very good" category), if they are something I really want and that's all that I can get my grubby hands on (and are offered up honestly as "good" quality, rather than "excellent"). But as a couple of you pointed out, it sounds like the end result is most likely not very good. (And what I found particularly annoying is that someone would intentionally create a copy that is lower quality than their original, by packing so many eps on a single layer DVD from VHS, especially since good quality DVDs are so inexpensive.) I have the first four seasons of MI (rec'd them from a trade with someone on SO) and they are really very good (IMO) with nifty menus & in episode order. If I am ever able to get more episodes, I'd like them to be of the same caliber. (There were also a couple of other red flags that were factored into this decision, as well. IE. when I questioned the quality, the reply was "it's cool". )

Thanks again!

Redwhine56,

If you're looking for additional Mission Impossibles, beware of a trader from the UK. He uses various IDs and names so I can't even give you more information than that.

Thumbs down ftp trading

I just remembered something else about this character from the UK that supposedly specializes in Mission Impossibles: he's heavily into ftp trading.
