Default R&B Today Sucks

There are no r&b artists out today that i like. I'm not feelin any of these r&b singers out right now. I used to like R Kelly before he started making steppin songs, trapped in the closet songs, gospel songs hahahahahahahaha. He f*ckin sucks now. There aren't any r&b artists right now that make party music. Everybody nowadays is singin too many slow songs & not enough uptempo songs. The songs that they do have that are uptempo are pop songs & they don't have enough funk in them. For example Destiny's Child Lose My Breath song is uptempo but it sounds like a pop song & not a r&b song. Since i grew up on old school r&b, i like uptempo party songs like George Clinton's Atomic Dog, Parliament's Flashlight, The Gap Band's Humpin, Early In The Morning, Party Train, Burn Rubber On Me, Zapp's More Bounce To The Ounce, Dance Floor, I Can Make You Dance, Heartbreaker, Dazz Band's Let It Whip, Joystick, Swoop I'm Yours, Cameo's She's Strange, Attack Me With Your Love, Single Life, Word Up, Shake Your Pants, Candy, Back & Forth, Flirt. Songs like that are tight & are party songs. Nobody in r&b today is making songs like that. These r&b artists today won't even be remembered 30-40 years from now like the old r&b artists LOL. That's why i continue to listen to my old r&b cd's & albums. F*ck these new r&b artists. They suck.

I am with u on that. I am old school jams!!!! I will never get tired of 70's funk, slow jams, p-funk, etc. Give me Tower of Power, Average White Band, Rare Earth, Funkadelic, Mass Production, Brass Construction, etc. etc. etc.

I agree 100%! I don't get up for nobody today. Some artists don't do it for the art. They just want to get paid, and sample an old song. That ain't creative. Funk is the sh*it!

I suppose that tioday's R&B have no clue as to what it was all about. I hope that it will never be a loss cause. The Four Tops, The Temptations, SmokeyRobinson, Marvin Gaye.............. Now that was R& B.. Oh Yeah!..............

Preach on!

It seems to me there are few artists, producers, and writers who actually know sh** about composing music. They just throw a beat down, use a recognizable sample and go from there. Where's the integrity in that?

Plus, where are all the bands? The musicianship has dwindled since the decline of the funk bands. Coincidence? I think not.

Reasons why R&B Today DOESN'T Suck

Dwele
Raheem Devaughn
Trey Songz
India.Arie
Cruna
Anthony David
Leela James
Jill Scott
Anthony Hamilton
Van Hunt
Rahsaan Patterson
Lyfe Jennings
Floetry
Kindred the Family Soul

and I didn't even mention people like Angie Stone, D'angelo, Maxwell, etc.

Stop eating what the radio feeds you and assuming that's all there is. Seek the music out, it's still out there.

I don't really care for current R&B music too much. I sometimes like it. For example Nelly's "N Dey Say" was the song that sampled "True" by Spandeau Ballet. They also did the same sampling used for PM Dawn's "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss". I don't like the song "Suga Suga" by Baby Bash with Frankie J doing backup. That song really stinks and it's annoying. Modern R&B music is too distracting to listen to. If I don't like today's R&B music, turn it off!

There is some traditional R&B artists I found and I forgot to remember their name. I'm pretty sure that I can listen to their songs again.

Vashti1999 all those new r&b artists you named suck. They're the reason why r&b today sucks because they only sing slow songs. Where's the uptempo party songs? There is none. I agree with you Ladybee about what happened to the bands. The majority of these r&b artists today don't know how to play instruments so that's why there aren't any bands.

A lot of 90s R&B was slow too. You seem to only be listening to like, neosoul artists like Erykah Badu or something, because there are plenty of R&B singers who do uptempo songs now...Ciara, Mariah Carey, Usher, etc...

Personally, I don't care for neo-soul all that much either. Some are just as unoriginal as the popular stuff that's on the radio.

Plus, I'm perfectly comfortable with my bitterness toward modern R&B. So there!

I totally forgot about the unoriginality. And yes, most of the hot radio stations in my state always have rap and r&b music instead of rock or pop music, such as 99.5 FM. I think as of today, most of the rap and r&b songs were so unoriginal, because they don't have a new beat or background music. It feels like a same music that ever made it over and over again. I know that the beat counts and something else that I don't know that they have the same sounds, so that is how they sound unoriginal. I think I knew some of the r&b artists that have originality, such as some kind of artist that I forgot to know from Asia.
