He just showed up out of nowhere. They supposely kept it on the low, and he just showed up at the door wanting James to fix some stuff for him. It didn't explain how he found out.

Good catch. I'm not sure how he actually found out, but JJ said him and Thelma ran into Bookman in the hall while they were bringing items back home to get fixed, and JJ said Bookman didn't suspect nothing, but you never know, he could have. He did learn their secret knock somehow. |

When there was a knock at the door the Evans didn't cover up any of the appliances that james was going to fix because they wasn't expecting it to be Bookman and when they opened the door it was too late to cover up the stuff and that's when Bookman started asking could James fix a couple of things for him.

Yep, sho nuff. The only explaination was Flo said she picked the right curtain on "Let's Make a Deal." I guess Bookman was suppose to be the new nosey janitor all ways snooping around. |

I didn't understand that baseball card thing either. Makes it seems like they cut out that scene when Bookman came to get his things and signed the card. |

Bookman found out from one of the other tenents or was just being nosy, saw the kids secret knock and imitated it.
Or just use your imagination. Either way, it isnt so unbelievable that a nosy landlord would find out about it, considering the number of tenents in the building with their stuff there being repaired. You guys are too much.... love this site though. I feel I have come home.

But when he came in There was all that stuff on the table and the couch and James was in the process of fixing something so Bookman just put it all together and came to the conclusion that he was fixing things for money. |

He could have had an 'informant'. He may have suspected something when he went into an apartment to fix something and saw a previously broken lamp now plugged in and working. Here is a scene I have in mind.
Bookman enters the apartment. Bookman-"I see that lamp is working now, see I told you it wasn't the outlet." A small child sitting closeby. Child-"Michael's daddy Mr. Evans fixed the lamp! It only cost us $3.00" The mother gives the child an angry look and then looks at another family member with concern. Bookman-"Evans fixed that lamp and charged you? What a shame, running a business out of the projects is against the lease, and you would be considered an accessory and might face disciplinary action too. What a shame." Mother-"Mr. Bookman, you can't put us out, I got no other place to go!" Bookman-"Well tell me how I can get James to make some repairs for me, and I will let this go." Mother-"Well you have to knock on the door like this...." |
