As disk becomes cheaper & cheaper over the years, I find myself with old hard drives that are still viable, but there are no empty bays or electrical plugs in my computer. Yeah, I've got ~600 gigs on my current system, but I also have a 20 gig, 30 gig & 40 gig drive sitting in my closet. Not a BIG deal, but still some space I could use at times, since I have years of photos & lots of video clips & such on my system, even if it was used only to backup some of those items. Someone recently posted this in another group I subscribe to:
http://www.pcmicrostore.com/PartDeta...x?q=p:10502715 I've never used one, but he says this cable is all you need to use an extra internal hard drive as an 'external' (no case, tho, so be careful) HD via USB port. I ordered one this a.m. & it's already shipped. Thought I'd pass this along, in case anyone's interested. For $18 (free shipping!), this seems to be a tool no computer geek should be without. |

great little gismo
for anyone who has some extra bay space, compusa, staples and office depot, seem to have--- free after rebate-- hard drives , quite often i have seen up to an 80 gig for zero cost and a 160 gig for like $20 to $30 after the rebate in the last couple weeks i grabbed off 4 of the 200 gig extrenals about 6 months ago on an o depot sale that was just stupid after rebates, they were about $30 each believe it or not, i know of a fella that trades shows on hard drives, he just sends the entire thing full of shows |

I have one of my 30 gb hard drives that I use with this external conversion
device as another added storage. The one thing about them is that they are louder than ones that are in the box themselves. It does pay to get the quality ones with the built in fan systems. A really good one will run in the 30 dollar range. Now, there are some that have multiple ports in them as well. basically it ends up looking like another computer box that you slide the drives in and crank them up. still a very good idea and solution to storage problems and the use of those extra drives just sitting there. |
