Default What do you think of AOL?

I'm thinking of dropping AOL. Does anyone have any experience good or bad with AOL or other providers?

AOL is a garbage, why? When I had this since 2000, I had a 56k modem and it was so slow and I get lost connections many times. It's so annoying when it happens to me a lot. At least I only had it about two years, which is not that long and for a good reason, it is because I had cable modem from Comcast for about like two years at the same time. I have a different kind of cable modem that I got from the computer store. And another things that I don't wanna forget to think of is that Napster and some other things that I knew that they had many problems. (1) Many people like to use this internet service. (2) Napster had many problems because of the MP3 and Copyright issues. I know that Earthlink and Prodigy is probably the best for the people who had 56k modem. I think that's because that it's not so busy when most people don't pick this service that much. My friend had Prodigy and he was lucky than I was. Just I'm glad that I don't really have any problems on the internet anymore. But the only problem I will get is Spyware and Adware. I think that's all I can think of for right now.

I can't stand AOL!! They claim to have the best virus protection, and all this crap, yet when I was with them, I had more viruses on my computer then ever before. 75 to be exact. Another thing that's terrible about them is that they make it almost impossible to end your membership. Atleast that was my experience. I called them atleast 15 times in the course of a one year period, trying to drop my account, and they wouldn't let me. I would say to them atleast 5 times during a phone call that I wasn't interested in staying with their company, but they would keep trying to make me stay regardless of what I said. Finally, a few months ago, it was exposed that many AOL employees were receiving extra money for getting customers who wanted to leave them, to stay, and after various people filed a multi million dollar lawsuit against them, I was finally able to end my membership. Right now I'm with a little local internet company, and Iv'e never had a single problem with them. So anyway, that's my thoughts on AOL. I personally would go with a different company if I were you. They suck!!

AOL was my first provider and it was dreadful! You call tech support and they don't understand what the heck you are talking about and you don't understand them either. Their dialup kicks you off the net every 5 seconds then they don't have any 'local' numbers to connect so everytime I got in the internet I had to pay a long distance call. Eventually I switched to Yahoo DSL with the phone company and it's G-R-E-A-T

I've never had AOL, but I've heard that it really sucks.

Another thing I didn't like about AOL, is that almost everytime I'd call, I'd be on with someone with a really heavy foreign accent. They were usually really nice, but you'd be lucky to understand one out of every three of their words. Sometimes I would answer their question with a yes or no, and not even know what I said yes or no to.

The only good thing about AOL, if there is such a thing, is that it comes free with RoadRunner!

I don't like AOL that much but I keep it for the virus scan, its easier than buying a new Mcaffe every year. I did not fill out one of the options because I am both ways about it.

I tried getting onto AOL for a trial period once, but there was too much traffic and I couldn't log on, so I never bothered with them. From what I could see from other users, their internet browser was a dumbed-down version of Internet explorer or netscape. I had no problem with either one of those, so I didn't see why I should go with them.

On the other hand, I have comcast broadband and I think it is vastly overpriced for the level and quality of service it provides. It claims to be "lightning fast" and "always on," but there are plenty of times when it's as slow as dial-up and web pages come up as "cannot access server."

Anyone who even thinks about choosing the first option on the poll, obviously has never used broadband or high speed internet.

AOL sucks and the only upside to it was in one version, the background color of the AOL window changed as the time did...And it showed a sun and a moon and all that. I thought that was cool. But who cares about that.
