This is something I've always wondered. Nick at Nite was created to show classic TV, and as time went on the shows they were airing were more and more current. Back in the day, they used to show stuff from the 50's and 60's. These days, they show stuff that isn't always even 10 years old yet. So, the solution they had was putting all of the old stuff on TV Land.
The same thing with Cartoon Network, though. When that started, it was a place to show classic cartoons. Then, as time went on, that phased out and now suddenly it's a place to show new stuff for kids and the spinoff network Boomerang is used for classics. Why do they do this? I mean, rather than keep changing the formula and having to create NEW networks to show things the old network cast aside, why don't they just mess around with the format of a new network and leave the old ones alone? I mean, what's the point of changing a network if you wind up having to create a NEW one just to house all of the stuff you just took off of the original one? |

Same goes for MTV and VH-1, neither show videos anymore (to my knowledge).
I LOVED Nick at Nite from it's beginning up to the late 90's. I don't have a problem with the shows, I just don't get why they have to be on Nick at Nite? And then when one of my favorite shows (Wings) comes to N@N, nobody with a ratings box watched it. I've complained about this before (many times, in fact). I want my classic N@N back! TV Land is good but it's no Classic N@N. It's like all the channels are bland and alike. |

Because your ultimate goal in television - at least in the US - is to deliver an audience to your advertisers. And as the interests of the people that the networks are trying to deliver - usually people between the ages of 18 and 49 - change over time, a network has to adapt in order to maintain viewership. If networks don't have viewers, they can't attract decent advertisers, profit goes out the window, the network is no longer commercially viable...and it goes byebye
People in the key demos would much rather see Fresh Prince and Roseanne over Patty Duke and Make Room for Daddy |

When I was little,I would always watch Dick Van Dyke,I Dream of Jeannie,Get Smart,Dragnet,Lucy, etc. For some reason I loved all those old shows. One time,I stayed up as late as I could to see how far the line up went to.Now,instead of showing classic TV shows, they're showing shows that are all shown in the 90s.They should at least take Full House off. That show is on so much in one day.Like around 3 hours or more a day

So my question is, instead of making a new network to house all of your old shows, why not just keep the same formula and make a new network for all of the NEW programming instead? |

I also wish Nick at nite would be 24 hour network. They could show new Comdeys. They could show different shows each night. I also think three company, night court and sanford and son should be on nick. tv land should show some of the older TV Shows.

I think one big thing is the ratings game. Now Nick at Nite I beleive has always done well for ratings. But I beleive ever since they put Cosby Show on the air the ratings went way up so they stuck to the basically current hits that haven't aged all that much.
