Default BLANK MEDIA DEALA

sugar ray suggested we start an argument about disc prices, so here we go

two seperate catagories

100 or less disc deals, and large quantity deals

please show in any deal you bring to our attention, what the actual cost is

example, with shipping and sales tax--- bottom line only to make a fair comparison

and to avoid a fruitless arguement about if generics really work or not

how about we limit the discussion to name brand and decent quality media

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

heres my first first shot

you can walk into office depot and purchase a 100 pack of dvd-r for $ 30 plus local taxes

the 8x dvd-r with office depot brand is a media code go5, ritek, which is top shelf media

if you use the advantage club card

you can get 10% back at the end of the quarter

so effective price is $ 27 plus tax for 100 discs

they usualy have no limit on how many you get either

ok so no o depot in your area??

they have the same deal online, but you need to purchase $ 50 or more to get free delivery

they deliver to my house next day from my order

thanks Loren!

cheapest ive seen up here in O'Canada was recently at Wallyworld. they had an anniversary sale and one of the sale items were Memorex discs. your choice + or - R

spindle of 75 for $25.95 + sales tax.

media code nothing special = CMC MAG. AE1

seems like everytime i check a memorex disc it has a different media code! you just never know what your going to get with memorex who ouviosuly does NOT brand their own media. mind you, who does now adays? i know sony doesn't. i guess there are only a few plants under the sun that actualy brand media and distribute to the masses with various packaging and labeling.

media is like everything else. you get what you pay for. go cheap and you will suffer

only media i had trouble with was a 200 pack of Sansui discs from Future shop. $60 bucks for a box of 200. cheap or what? ill say! once i opened the box you could see Glue bubbles on each and every silver top UGLY-ass disc. tried 4 discs and ALL 4 failed! i returned it for a refund and actualy used a black marker to CIRCLE the glue bubbles that were visible beneth the disc's surface. they had no arguments and returned my money $$$$$

finding the perfect media can be like searching for the holy grail when you burn as much as we do

From what I have read, Taiyo-Yuden Made In Japan DVD-Rs are among the best. I order them from SuperMediaStore in spindles of 100. Sometimes they have free shipping, so they wind up costing about 30 cents each.

Normally HP is not a good brand. I have not had good burns with them. Everytime I have bought them they check as CMC... although the memorex I sometimes buy checks the same most of the time, always work good for me.

I fell for that deal also last spring. What a nightmare! .... I had to send replacements to so many people, it was insane.

John
taiyo yuden is by almost every article i have read

the top brand there is

i use a lot of it myself

but, the odds of this being actualy ty are very slim in this case

there are tons of counterfiet generics out there that claim to be ty

and even have a fake media code

i even got some from shop4tech and i returned it at their cost

and they admitted it

and said it was an oversight

yet they still are selling the same thing now

do a google search for ty fake codes

and there will be a metric ton of articles about it

these things come in no name packages

an easy way for me to spot a fake is the dye layer on a real ty is deep and all the way out to the edge

the generic fakes are much thinner, and they arent spread evenly

useing ty is a great idea

about the best way to get ty at a decent price is to either by like 4000 at a time in actual ty packageing

or look at your local best buy or staples for the fugi dvd-r 8x, that are made in japan

not made in taiwan, those are not ty, only the japans are

best buy and staples runs these on sale every few weeks

www.nomorecoasters.com

this web site is a nice try

but he has the exact same media in three different classes

and he doesnt seperate 4x 8 x and 16 x at all

or even like the fugi where the 8x minis r from japan is a top quauity

and the taiwan is numerous different lesser quality maunfactures

ao your self a favor

take an hour sometime and search google and look at 20 sites that rate things

you will see the same things at the top of almost every poll or forum

I have been going to Best Buy recently on Sundays, they usually have good deals like Sony or Fujifilm DVD-R/+R for $30-40 per 100 spindle. The only really bad deal I had was with some Dysan media I bought off someone from another forum. I had used it for about 200 discs with no problem, then one batch of about 50+ were all crap, so now I stick to either Taiyo Yudens, Riteks, or the branded media from Best Buy.

its very interesting to me. the development of blank media. i betcha 98% of consumers that buy blank media have no idea regarding quality, class etc....
most look no further then grabbing the small amount they need off the shelf for their computer.

good topic yoi guys!
