I HATE TEENAGE FASHION!!!! - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

All the girls at my school wear sweatclothes and ripped jeans. They also wear absolutely NO MAKEUP; even the seniors!

They wear their hair in messy buns and they look so gross. It bothers me. Anyway, I decided that I wasn't going to stoop to their sloppy fashion so I go to school every day in a nice skirt with a cute blouse and heels with a matching purse. I wear 1950s-esque makeup. I am now being called things like "dress-up girl" and "lipstick lady" and teachers mistake me for a substitue.

What is wrong with this picture?! Why is it odd to want to look good?

There is nothing wrong with it at all. Just don't dress one way only too be completely different from everybody else. Just dress how YOU like and what feels comfortable for you. And if you like the 1950s way of dressing than go ahead and do it. Kids are stupid but eventually they will find something else to bitch about. And look at it this way at least you have the option of dressing as you want and don't have a stupid dress code.

Just be who you are and don't let anyone else bring you down for it.

All the girls at my school wear Abercrombie, American Eagle, Aeropostale, etc. In middle school I used to wear those brands because that's what everyone was wearing. Thankfully in highschool, I began to find out who I was and started to dress more for comfort than looks. I like to shop at PacSun mostly. I go to school in jeans, sneakers, t-shirt and hoodie- but I make sure I don't look sloppy.

NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THEIR BOXER SHORTS!!!! AND NOOOOOO, A HAND CLUTCHING THEIR CROTCH DOES NOT A BELT MAKE!!!!

I remember when 30 years ago, in 7th grade, I started taking pride in my appearance by dressing up for the ladies.

The stoner punks all started calling me "Mr. Clean".

So it is absolutely mandatory for all girls to wear makeup for them to look good? That is completely ridiculous. If you feel the need to dress to dress up, go ahead and do so. But you have to realize that it's not the 1950s and most people aren't going to dress like it is.

First off, I didn't say it was MANDATORY for them to wear makeup; I just find it weird that in a school of 800+ kids, the only people who wear makeup are the goth kids and me. And it's not necessarily that I feel the other girls should dress as I do, I just feel that the hoodie-gym shorts-flip flops combo is a little TOO casual for school. I don't have problems with jeans or T-shirts (that is if they fit correctly) or other casual clothes as long as it isn't gym wear, sleep wear, or underwear (which is how most of the girls at my school dress). And I'm aware that it's not the '50s and I never said it was, thank you very much. I said I wore my makeup in a '50s sort of style. And I didn't mean to come off as trying to change the way the youth of America dresses, I was basically stating that I didn't like it and because I choose not to dress that way, I get made fun of for it.

I don't like being easy to point out in the hallways because I'm really shy and everything but I refuse to look sloppy because, and I know this will sound stupid, I feel my grades will start to slip. Seriously, when I was in middle school I wasn't always dressed up and I was just an average student, but now I have an A average, so my new philosophy is "Look your best, do your best."

That ia NOT a stupid idea, that is one of the most sensible things I've heard in a long while! Your goals are directly reflected by your self-image. If you don't care about yourself, there's little chance you care much about your grades or anything else. I went through a period of depression a few years ago where I let myself go and people definitely noticed. It got to the point where I had to change and improve my self-attitude, and after that, things went better for me.

You think that's bad? The girls in my school dress like prostitutes. They're shirts don't even reach their waist. They're basically saying rape me. I'm not sure if it's worse to dress like a dirtbag or a prostitute.

I wish I could wear regular clothes to school everyday, but at least I dont have to deal with choosing outfits, except for casual days.

word shirts are popular at my school..lozzl things like "don't interrupt me when i'm talking to myself" for guys and "kiss me before i change my mind" for girls.

i only have a few shirts that aren't men's band shirts..i wear lots of pr33333tty bracelets...and i always wear vividly colored/patterned socks that NEVER match, which is one of the reasons everyone at school thinks i'm so bad ass ^_^
