Default Notre Dame worst defense I ever saw today

Did anyone see the ending of the Notre Dame / USC game, I am sorry, but Notre Dame played horriable defense. When you have run almost twice as many as offensive plays as the other team, you have to win the game.

I don't care how great USC offense is, but when you have the team on 4th and 8 and a stop wins the game, a good team stops them there and wins the game. That is why I like the pros better than college.

If the Patriots, Colts, Eagles, or any decent NFL team has a team beat and all they have to do is get a stop on a 4th and 8, they get the job done.

USC got lucky today, they play like they played today against a average NFL team, they lose. That is why the pro sport is better than college.

If the Jets or Giants played defense like Notre Dame played defense today, they would be ripped apart by the fans and media. There are no moral victories, nothing except winning is exceptable in the pros.

So let me get this straight. They come closer than anybody in the last 2 years to beat the back to back national champions, including Heisman winner/candidate/expected #1 pick in the next NFL Draft Matt Leinert (0 TD and 2 INT), and Heisman candidate Reggie Bush, along with the best offensive line USC has had according to their coach, yet they have the worst defense you've ever seen?

This could be a problem. Because you should.

Well, maybe you should go and find some good NFL films to watch. You'll find some games where a first tier team converts on 4th and long to win a big game. 4th and 26 with the Packers vs. Eagles a couple years ago comes to mind.

Hmmm. Maybe there's a reason only a few players, even from great teams like USC, wind up making it in the NFL. You might be onto something.

Yeah, I agree. They should get rid of that obnoxious moral win/loss column you always see in the college standings.

I stand by what I said. 4th and 8, you have to win the game. There are no moral victories, just ask Herm Edwards. "You play to win the game."

I was told there was an upset in the making, and Notre Dame let me down.

I hate the college overtime rule. If USC did kick the field goal to tie the game, they would have won, because the overtime rule plays to their type of game.

If any NFL team almost beat the Colts, Patriots, or Eagles and lose like Notre Dame did, their fans would be mad at the team for losing.

USC offense is not that great, best in college, but any NFL team except for maybe the Arizona Cardinals, would shut them down.

Actually, they played some of the best defense against USC, that Iv'e seen in years. For them to hold them down to 21, or 23, or however little it was, when USC typically scores over 40 points per game, was very very impressive. I totally agree with Dutabi84!! ND did alot better than I thought they would, and proved that they are an elite team. I wouldn't be surprised if they were contending for a National title within the next year or two. Looks like we'll be seeing the Notre Dame of old very soon!!

Correction, the final score was 34, to 31. I just woke up, so my minds a bit slow. LOL. Anyway you look at it though, that's impressive. To score 31 points against the number one ranked team, and one of the best defenses, and to hold them below 40, is a rare thing. ND played good.

Maybe I said it wrong. Overal they did a good job keeping USC scoring down. Though I think Notre Dome keeping the ball away from them has a lot to with USC offense not scoring that much.

I give the Notre Dame a lot of credit for controling the time of possession.

Notre Dame had terriable crunch time defense. Crunch time meaning the last two minutes of the game. For 58 minutes they did a great job, then the last 2 minutes their defense collapes.

Anyone that knows football will tell you, if you have dominate time of possession, you suppose to win the game.

One play is when Notre Dame really disappointed me was the 4th and 8. If you have the lead with less than 2 minutes to go at home, and all you need is to get a stop on 4th and long, you can not let them get the 1st down.

I think Notre Dame got jacked by the officials. USC should not have had 7 second left on the clock. 3 to 5 seconds is what the call should have been, then they would have kicked a field goal, and we go to overtime, which Notre Dame would have lost anyway, I don't see any college team beating USC in an ovetime, those rules play right into their strength.
