Still Moonlighting?
With Medium hot, Caron is also currently mulling a Moonlighting feature film -- a la Dukes of Hazzard and next year's Miami Vice. "I get asked about it every three weeks. For a long time, I couldn't imagine doing it without Bruce (Willis) and Cybill (Shepherd)." But now, he adds, "I have the perfect people in mind, but I don't know if they'd be interested ... I have no idea what it'd be about, but I do think there are a couple of actors who would get the spirit of the show." He declines to name names. "Why set myself up for ridicule and disappointment?" He says he didn't speak to Shepherd for "a long time," until the first DVD set of the show was recently produced and they ended up doing the commentaries together. "Bruce and I have always been really close. That's a very solid friendship. (When we were doing Moonlighting) Cybill had been a movie star before, but Bruce had never been there before and I certainly hadn't. We were two people completely making it up as we went along." http://jam.canoe.ca/Television/2005/10/15/1262984.html Who would you guys like to see recast as David and Maddie??? www.moonlighting21.com |

I can't even think of 2 young actors to play their roles. I am not crazy about any of the young actors out there. Only Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz are the only young actors i like( but not for Moonlighting). I would love a happy ending for our couple but i always imagine it being Bruce and Cybill.

i really can't think of anyone, but maybe he's thinking of someone who is fairly unknown like bruce willis was.
sometimes glenn caron's ideas are wonderful and sometimes they are less than wonderful. so... it's possible this could turn out to be exciting...let me change that, i really don't think so! |

If it ain't broke, don't break it
I can't see anybody doing it but the original cast. I'm sorry. It just wouldn't be the same.
No offense but I'm a little tired of everything having to be changed to fit one demographic. A movie can be aimed at adults. Look at the classic films, they didn't cater just to the youth market. No one would have thought of messing with "Casablanca" or "The African Queen" just to make sure kids on vacation from school were going to be interested. Actors back then were often quite a bit older than they are today. What ought to matter is how well one plays the role and that's it. Although they change James Bond every few years, that's different... Anyone who's seen the show before and liked it, has to do so because of the original actors. To use anybody else makes it, for me, an entirely different story and disconnects me from enjoying it. I'm sorry. I think there are some pretty good young actors, but these roles are for me completely identified with the people who started them. I am not sure younger fans who have never seen the syndication runs would be interested in the story. They simply do not know the context. The older fans would not be as interested in a different cast. Therefore we wouldn't be increasing the audience, just switching one crowd for another, and perhaps only alienating the other half. The first audience of the show--Baby Boomers/"Me Generation" and Generation X people--are the ones who know what it is and why it's great. I'd rather have it not done than not done right. |

Me too!
Glenn has always been into new things. Hiring an actor no one knew, the fourth wall, etc etc. Why not take a shot and take the original cast! Shure there can be younger actors in it, but the main parts should go to the people who originally played it. He's going to have an audience, look at all the people who bought the DVDs, got to see the show when it started, the new generation (a.k.a. me ) born when the show started and liked it even in the year 2000!!Those people won't walk away from it, it can't get bad for them (I think). It can, if another cast starts to play Maddie and David and no one who ever saw ML in the first place will get what the story is about. Cybill and Bruce are the MAGIC of Moonlighting, THEY brought the show to live like no one else could! (and will for my part) You want a good ending for the show? Putting another cast in their seat is NOT a good ending... |

I agree with everything that's been said. They might be able to get two young actors to do a good romantic comedy, but it wouldn't be Moonlighting! I have a terrible feeling that Glenn knows BW isn't interested in doing a Moonlighting movie and he also sees a lot of other shows being re-cast for the big screen, so it's tempting him to say maybe...

there is a "formula" out there about re-makes.
the formula is this....you take a big succesful tv show that everyone remembers fondly. then you spend tons of money on tv or big screen remake on it. you get new fans who learn about the old show, and they do not have the desire to learn and appreciate that old show. then the movie fades away into nothingness because even new fans can't keep it alive for more than two weeks or a month, and it dies a quickly forgotten death. and takes a huge amount of older fans (like us) with it over the disgust the new version gave us. recent example: the dukes of hazzard. how long was it big in theatres? a week? it's forgotten about now, how much business did it drum up for the old tv show, much less the new movie? same as the beverly hillbillies. all that money they spend on the remake, they could use that to settle the disputes about the music copyrights for the DVD releases. that's the ONLY favour they could do for us, new and old fans. |

Has there been a re-make that has been as good as or better than the original? I can't think of any. To do a re-make requires no imagination except to re-cast the roles. If the original movie/TV show was great, NO ACTORS can replace the original cast because that particular cast was what made it great to begin with. Most re-makes are painful to watch.
Reunion shows can be fun, usually not as much for the fans but for the cast members to get together again IMO. Reunion shows can also tie up any lose ends that happened during the original event. |

Oh, and I agree with everything everyones has said. If they aren't going to get the original actors back it's surely going to be a waste of time and I'd rather they didn't bother. Love Gem |

That is a great pic - it looks like it was from The Golden Globes when Cy wore the orange dress (later worn in When Girls Collide). I love the fact that they both won Golden Globes that night. You can't have ham without leggs.

What an awful idea, I would hate a remake of Moonlighting with any actors! No one could recreate that wonderful chemistry and why would anyone want to! Even the Dukes of Hazzard film wasn't as good as the series, and the series was no patch on ML.
Yuck. Not sure who he would aim this at - ML fans would hate it, and most peeps that are young enough to want to go and see a film like that don't remember the original! Ick. Mul |

Right again! No re-make is ever as good as the original. The sad part is that Hollywood doesn't seem to want to feature "over 35" characters or appeal to an "over 35" demographic as an audience. They'd rather cast a new, younger David and Maddie, which won't appeal to anyone. It's a shame.
