Let's talk a bit about Kurt McFall - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

the young man who apparently got involved in medieval culture/religion before being found dead on the beach while on a trip to visit his "guru" in San Francisco. There are conflicting stories as to what happened to Kurt - officially he is thought to have fallen off some jagged rocks on the beach, crashing into the water and died as a result of that fall.

Some distrubing ambiguities persist though - around Kurt' car which he had driven to the beach were beer cans, Kurt's money was missing as was his suit of armor that he always kept in the trunk.

Kurt's father believes that the people who Kurt got involved with in the medieval religion murdered Kurt because he was going to expose something within what Kurts' father termed "the cult". One man in particular Gabriel (and I forget his last name but he was known by the ancient name Corodick) is suspected in taking part in Kurt's death as he was staying at his home the weekend that he died

Some more puzzling facts exist in that Kurt's behavior according to his friends became increasingly "weird" when he joined the "medieval worship" group. Also even though there wer dozens of beer cans found in and around Kurt's vehicle - Kurt was not known to be a drinker.

Any thoughts?

Thats a good point but do you honestly think he drank all that beer in one sitting or was stupid enough to drink all that beer in one sitting. Um made it seem like there was twenty cans or so around the car.

Sure it's possible that Kurt being away from his parents had Gabe buy him some beer and decided to party on the beach but still that much beer in one sitting and apparently by himself is something usually something that would indicate that McFall was not only a drinker but a bit of a booze hound.

In addition even if his parents were in the dark about his drinking it is quite probable his friends knew about it and after Kurt's death I'm sure one of them would have said something to the effect "Oh Kurt just got smashed again and ended up taking a tumble" or something but they apparently didn't promote that theory?

I know its an old post but there was no alcohol or drugs found in Kurt's body during the autopsy. He died from blunt force trama to various bodt parts. He was pushed off the cliff in my mind. How does someone stone cold sober walk off or fall off a cliff? Maybe Gabriel convinced Kurt that he could fly and Kurt attempted this? If Kurt was known to be with this guy and ended up dead, it would seem that the car scene was staged, who couldve staged it other than Gabe? Who had access to the car? The person who staged it tried to make it look like Kurt was drunk, not thinking the autopsy would show otherwise.

That Gabe character was a little strange. Even if he had nothing to do with it he is a cult leader and is not all there. Did anyone know where the mother was. She was never mentioned in the segment and was not at the scene at the end with the grave?Sadly, I do not think this case will ever be solved.

I didn't find Gabe very weird at all. Yes I know it seemed a bit odd he believed in medieval religion and customs so strongly but he's really not all that different from people who subscribe to the "new age" movement etc. Musicians such as John Lennon and Brian Wilson would often consult psychics and numerologists before heading into the recording studio or prior to a concert. Although both men could be viewed as eccentric it doesn't necessarily mean there actions should be interpreted any different from yours or mine based solely on what they believe in and this applies to "medieval Gabe" too.

Yeah, I guess. I think he is probably harmless, but I would be leary to have my high school son hang with him. Different people make the world interesting I guess.

Excuse me even if it was a case of Kurt wandering off in the middle of the night, Kurt was a legal minor so as an adult whose residence Kurt was staying in, Gabe had a responsibility to make sure the kid didn't do that but he didn't give evidence that he bothered to check up on his houseguest until long after the kid was missing.Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't recall that Gabe even bothered to look for Kurt or report his absence!

I've always found it interesting to look at how crime is presented in different eras. Remember when it seemed that in the late 1980s/early 1990s there were a string of investigations where "satanic cults" were at the center? Usually Dungeons and Dragons was pointed to as the culprit that led kids to acts of violence. What's interesting is that factors such as mental stability, drinking or drugs is overlooked and the satanic cult thing is the main focus. I just don't see kids going that much over the edge and violence being the result unless it was involving drugs or some other outside factor- I just don't see D&D or most pagan-type religions being the sole factor (especially since most of those religions seem to emphasize peace, not violence). I also remember this was the same era when those cheesy presentations on "backwards masking" and heavy metal lyrics analyses were appearing in youth groups and schools across the country! Parents were in a frenzy to purge suburban basements and dens of D&D and Iron Maiden!
However, I do think that the group leader should have more of a caring for what happened- it's like he's annoyed that people were asking him questions!

I think the emphasis on cults is a sign of pop culture of the times. In the mid to late 1980's, heavy metal music and rock was the type of music and culture "punks and burnouts" wanted to emulate. Not that the music wasn't enjoyed by many "normal" people, but "thugs" at that time became over involved and took it to the extreme and the result was cults and satanism.

Whereas today, its rap and gangs that seem to be the culture "thugs" want to emulate. The extreme is gangs and people thinking their tough "pimping" and that type of violence and bad behavior stemming from the "rap culture." Many white kids who try to pretend they are "rappers" and "thugs" and "pimps" etc.

This is my viewpoint as a teacher in an urban area.
