Post The Final Season

What did you all think of the last season? I personally thought it was stupid. The show was so good up until then.

Actually the show was getting pretty lame when they were running out of material to do on the show, which incidently was about the same time Rosanne got that stupid/ugly face life of hers.

Is it me or did she (Rosanne) seem to have a personality change for the worse on that show ??

I'd be willing to bet that John Goodman couldn't wait for the series to end.

In the meantime, as much as I tried to be faithful and follow the show since 1995, I just said "the heck with it!!" As it just got to be plain stupid with the Mark and David putdowns.

About the only good show during post plastic-surgeory for Rosanne was the dope found and smoked by Rosanne, Jackie and Dan.

And even that was pretty lame!!

I think I am the only one who likes the last season. It's on TBS now, and I think there all hilarious. Strange, yes, but the are hysterical. I love every season, and every episode. Amazing show.

I'm not in love with the last season either. However I can still watch it. I'm glad TBS is airing it. It did not get released until 2 years after it has aired on ABC.

By the last season, the show was resembling a "Lucy" comedy, with Roseanne and Jackie doing all sorts of sily things and meeting odd characters (remember the late Jim Varney as some smarmy rich guy?) but with a total lack of wit. I think by the end Roseanne had become so drunk with her own power that she felt she could do whatever she wanted with the show without any body telling her otherwise.
The last season was a complete opposite of the show's first few seasons. And those seasons were great.

In the series finale, Roseanne (in a voiceover) revealed that Dan did die from the heart attack he suffered at Darlene's wedding. According to the very surprise ending, the entire series was just a book that Roseanne Connor wrote.

It was all a dream, like when Pam found Bobby Ewing in the shower in "Dallas."

If any of the younger folks on this site were around when
that show aired....

The last season was the worst season in my opion but they actually had some good episodes that season. Remember the Thanksgiving episode where Roseanne's mom comes out of the closet that was pretty good. and I liked the episode where those ladies from the britcom AbFab have an apperance that was pretty good with the drag queen stuff.

The final season of Roseanne was very bizarre and not in keeping with how the show had gone for all of the seasons before it. After the Connors won the millions in the lottery, I thought that the show could have found a way to mine some great episodes out of it. Boy, was I wrong!!!

The final season was the best season. They finally made it so that Roseanne and Jackie could do some slapstick comedy, and some of the subplots and writing were just excellent for it.

I agree that the final season wasn't very funny, however I originally found season eight really bad, but since watching them again I find myself laughing.

I think to enjoy season nine for most of us, you need to put it in to perspective, Roseanne used the whole of season nine to set up the last episode which is actually pretty clever, however it could have been done in a funnier way.

Rich can be funny, look at Ab fab.

I think the show was funny after Roseanne got the face lift, Season Five was one of the strongest seasons of the whole series and won both Roseanne and Laurie Metcalf Emmy's.

You know...the more I watch episodes during the 9th season, the more I enjoy them. I hated the 9th season the first few times I saw the episodes during that time period, but the more I watch the more it all makes sense. (Except that friggin train episode)

Plus, I even read somewhere that when Roseanne first sat down with ABC to discuss the idea of the Connors winning the Lottery, the network hated it. But when she explained the ending to them, they let her go through with the idea. Which means the dream season was actually intended to be a dream from the start, and NOT a cop out like many people state.

My suggestion to people who absolutely hate the 9th season, is to sit down and watch it, it's actually very genius. Just GREATLY misunderstood.

Default Brilliant

I personally thought the final season was brilliant. The outrageous storylines, I have to admit, were a little strange but it was perfectly explained at the end. Everything meant something. It was all about how Roseanne dealt with Dan's death. Anyone who thought of it in a literal sense, of course, would hate it. But if you think about it, and WATCH the final 15 minutes of the final episode, you will appreciate the 9th season.
