It's a bit complicated to explain, but a 1.0 averages out to 1,096,000 total viewers. Joey got a 5.0, so it got 5,480,000 viewers for the night. the /8 represents that 8% of of American households tuned into Joey last Thursday.

Well it looks like that Joey only lost to EHC because of the media hype of the first episode. Joey has average more viewers than EHC the last 2 weeks
