Lightbulb Island some sort of experimental lab?

I saw the third episode of the new season last night... so... is the Island some sort of experimental lab? I am starting to think that is the direction they are going towards. Any thoughts?

I kind of got that last night as well AND I kind of think NOW that maybe Jin is the reason why they are all there (just because the Previews to Next weeks we saw him speaking English)

for some reason, I am thinking the passengers are really dead and they are stuck in purgatory.

I saw a special on LOST on 20/20 and they ruled that out. It's not a dream and they are not stuck in purgatory... at least according to the 20/20 show. They said every incident on the show has a "logical" explanation.

20/20 interviewed J.J. and Damon, and they said it is not a dream.

According to the orientation film that Jack and Locke watched, it is the third of six stations and was originally constructed as a lab where scientists could try to figure out electromagnetic fluctuations coming from the island. Supposedly, something went wrong and that's why whoever is tending the station has to enter the code and push the button every 108 minutes.

The film also explained where the polar bears came from (which was sort of a letdown since it originally seemed as though Walt had something to do with it) but at least it also indirectly explained why that octagonal symbol was on the tail of the shark that tried to eat Sawyer.

It might be a while before we find out what those things are. Didn't Rousseau call them a "security system", but then she hasn't always proved to be the most reliable source of information. Whatever they are, I'd be surprised if they're part of the original Dharma Initiative. Now that we've seen another of the six stations, one that's clearly no longer functional, it looks like the Dharma people might have abandoned the experiments long ago. Maybe those smoke things have something to do with the "incident" at station three.

I've noticed that in IMDb's list of guest stars for "Lost" there's either a mistake or they've revealed a spoiler about this week's episode. If their list is accurate, it should be interesting.
