David was introduced in the 4th season and moved in with the conners towards the end of the 5th season.

I would swear David was introduced much earlier as Mark's brother, but they called him Kevin then. Also, why did the writers' call him David when DJ's real name is David Jacob?

In response to sunlover, it is true that David, Darlene's boyfriend, was originally introduced onto the show as Kevin. That is one of the show's acknowledged inconsistencies.

Question Is he David or Kevin?!

I just saw the episode where David introduced himself as Kevin...I have been searching all over the internet to find out what the deal is with that, I am glad someone noted it is an acknowledged inconsistency. But, is there any further info? i.e. was it a writers goof? Was it his goof for using the wrong name? Did they just decide to change it on the next episode? I am very interested in this piece of trivia, if anyone has any further information!

Aparently, Darlene made up the name David for him. As Roseanne says in one episode (can't remember which one) "David isn't even his real name it's just something that Darlene made up for him!"

That was just a joke. You don't actually believe that it was supposed to be taken seriously do you?

I found an interview awhile ago with Johnny Galecki about it...apparently he was starring on another tv show at the same time, in an ABC sitcom called "Billy" where his character was also named David. ABC didn't want people to think THAT David (a good kid on a family show, I suppose) was the same David on Roseanne (a more controversial show), so the Roseanne producers or whatever had to change "David", which was written into the script, to "Kevin". But then the show Billy was canceled and Johnny joined the cast of Roseanne, and they changed it back to "David".

Well, Johnny Galecki didn't say it in that many words, but that was the gist of it, as I recall. They probably could have kept "Kevin", but for whatever reason still wanted to use "David."

It's the only thing that makes sense to the change of name and it does seem like that type of thing that Darlene would do, seeing as she had so much control over David for a pretty good portion of their relationship on the show.

Plus, I never understood why DJ's name was David Jacob.
One would assume it would be Dan Jr.

Not really. I have a cousin who everyone calls "TJ" and it stands for "Thomas Joseph", even though a lot of people think that it stands for "Tommy Jr.", which it doesn't. (Tommy is his dad's name, but everyone just calls him "Tom").

Well, what's your explanation for all of Roseanne's plastic surgeries on the show? Obviously the character couldn't afford them but the actress could. So what happened? Roseanne lost a lot of weight and her face magically morph, or did Darlene change that too? Do you see the flaw in your logic.

But we aren't talking about the change of physical appearances of the cast members, we are talking about the name change of a character. See the diffrenece?????????????????

I think that they added the "Darlene just made up that name" joke into the episode just so people would shut up about the inconsistency with that name.
