The Vera character was 31????????????????? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I was watching a 1984 episode and it was mentioned that Vera was 31. So does that mean that she was 23 when Alice premeired?-LOL I didn;t think none of them was ever in their 20's at all during the show's run from 76-85

Alice and Vera had to be in their early 30's back in '76!!! I think Flo had to be already 50!

Now that would be more believable if Vera was 31 in 76. Which would have made her 39 in 84. But it no way I was going to believe she was 31 in the 84-85 season.

Beth Howland aka Vera was actually 35 when the show premiered.

Yup, she looked around 43 in that 84 episode. She could not pass for 31 at all. When Mel said 31, i was like-WHATEVER-lol

I remember in a 1978 episode where they were all trying to see Vera's boyfriend and she got mad at them for being "overprotective", Mel commented:
"You're ONLY 31 years old!"
LOL- I guess she never aged the entire show's run.

I Made a Mistake. I just realized it was a 78 episode when Mel said that. But she still looked over than 31-lol That was the episode when they were spying on Vera inside the Movie Theater

Actually, I think it was a Humphrey Bogart film festival, because I remember her and her boyfriend Brian talking about the ending of Casablanca. Vera said she hoped each time she saw the movie it would end differently.
"I keep hoping Ingrid Bergman's plane will run out of gas and she'll have to stay with Humphrey Bogart."
