Default They should've let Valerie be sexy on the show

Old modeling/publicity shots of Valerie are better looking than the show itself. What a waste! When Val got a little older they should've let her start dressing a little more sexy. I don't think she ever really did shed that goody-goody wallflower image did she?

Keep in mind that "One Day" was a family sitcom of the seventies, so what is considered sexy today would have been over the top then, but the producers took every opportunity to show Valerie's (Barbara Cooper) sexy side.....some examples....

Before the character was married in numerous episodes she walked around in a thigh high nightshirt...

In one of the New Years variety episodes, she sings "Hey Big Spender" dressed in a slinky slit up the leg dress, black stockings and heels.

There were numerous episodes where Barbara uses her innocent yet sexy side to take avantage of boys, including one where she dresses "trampy" to get more attention.

and of course the famous "bathtub" episode where she is shown with nothing but bubbles surrounding her for most of the episode as the family has a argument in the bathroom.

Maybe I remember too much, but as a 13 year old male back in 1976, I certainly remember my TV crush which still makes me look back fondly today....so they must have been doing something right.....lol

The character was a wholesome girl next door which made her very appealing to everyone.....that's what worked, if she dressed like the girls do today on TV, it wouldn't have worked.

Cool

You have to remember that that the producers were trying to create a contrast between the rebellious daughter (Julie) and the well behaved daughter (Barbara). So if anyone was going to dress sexy on the show it would be Julie!

I just want to make it clear that the poster that put the pictures of actress Valerie Bertinelli are from the second season (1976) and NOT the "Thigh high white mens dress shirt" wardrobe that I originally mentioned from circa 1983 episodes. Don't forget the series ran from 1975-1984 and Valerie Bertinelli became the fantasy girl next door and grew into womanhood right before our eyes, and every teenage boy who grew up with her as I was 12 in 1975 and was 21 when the series ended. The pictures posted clearly show a very young Bertinelli, innocent enough but not the episodes I was eluding too. An innocent mistake from the poster I guarantee.

She looked cute in that! It was a cute night shirt. She was in her house though with her mother, not trying to be sexy or wearing it out on the streets!

Yeah, but, not with Schneider sitting on the kitchen floor looking up...

Oh, and Barbara could wear Lady Gaga's worst outfit and still look cute.

I did notice that once she got older but before she was married, she was either in the tub or in a towel for 4-5 episodes in a row.

I had a crush on Valerie since i was a kid, but now i feel creepy watching the show 30 years later. Even though we are the same age in real life.
