Default AYBS?-Mr Lucas or Mr Spooner

Who do you like better?
I personally am for Mr Lucas, he wasn't as irritating as Spooner.

Cool

I agree. I liked Lucas better too. I think he had a better chemistry with the rest of the cast.

Well, to be honest I don't remember Mr. Spooner. So I would have to go with Mr. Lucus.

Am I right in assuming Mr.Spooner was the first one? If so, I must not have seen many of the earlier episodes.

Mr. Lucas was first, played by Trevor Bannister. He left the show after the 1979 season. Mr. Spooner (Mike Berry) joined in 1981.

Mr. Lucas was much funnier than spooner. he was always up to something plus the only time spooner was of use was the rock star episode and even then mr humphries and the gang stole the show.

Lu-Lu-Lu...I'm trying to say Lucas!

Spooner was too wet, really. As mentioned earlier, his finest hour was the Rock Star episode. There were too many classic Lucas moments to count, but you just had to love him when he broke out that devilish grin when he was being a naughty boy...

Defintely Mr Lucas...he was always getting in trouble, esp in the early episodes, usually while trying to hit on Miss Brahms. I love it when he
does the "glass of water for"...bit

I have just purchased every episode of "Are You Being Served?" on DVD. After watching many of the episodes, I must say that Mr. Lucas is funnier and more charming than Mr. Spooner. In fact, Lucas is my favorite character of the whole show. I definitely miss him in series 8-10.

Totally agree - Trevor Bannister really made the script work. I also liked Mr Grainger, the curmudgeonly old sod. I felt the show lost a lot when these guys left. I never liked Old Mr Grace - He had some well written lines, but I could never see the point of him.

No, none of the replacements were as good as the originals (in my mind). I even like Mr. Mash more than Mr. Harmon, though Harmon seems more popular. Once Mr. Grainger passed away, they couldn't keep a replacement. First Mr. Tebbs came and went, then Mr. Goldberg and Mr. Grossman. I'm not sure if there were any others, I haven't watched all the episodes yet. Over at TV.Com it says that Mr. Tebbs was forced out of the show because his character was too similar to another character the actor portrayed, I believe in commercials. And Mr. Goldberg left because they wouldn't give him a bigger role. I, too, don't care much for Old Mr. Grace. Originally I didn't care for Young Mr. Grace, but he's grown on me. At least he was a real old man. Old Mr. Grace was someone made up to look old, and it just comes off looking phony. I know that Old Mr. Grace would have been really old (I'm guessing in his ninties) but it still looked phony.

That had nothing to do with the topic of Lucas versus Spooner, but I'm a new fan of the show, and I felt like discussing it. lol

I forgot that there were two Mr Grace's, and like you say Old Mr grace was made up to look old and it really didn't work.
