The leading up to Boy Meets World

Hello all. I'm new to this forum and hope to be here often. I just wanted to write a few thoughts on this series as I have recently starte my career as a family sitcom writer in LA. My career however was inspired by this show and a few converations I had with Michael Jacobs and April Kelly about what made this series so unique.

I want to point out that as well all know this series had a lot of heart. And when it was pitched to Disney it really was a hit from day 1. As most older folks know sitcom was in a down point after the late 70's Gary Marshal shows had ended. But it is interesting to note that many of the Warner Brothers / Disney future shows would be writing teams that all came from Gary Marshall shows. The staff Jeff Franklins (Full House) and April Kelly's (Mork & Mindy) all came out of the Marshall era. And for a while sitcom died, until The Cosby Show put it back on the map.

Once the Cosby show began sitcom was a hit, and soon after sitcom was filling up the dial. Where Boy Meets World comes in however was with its style. Most of the current shows focused around the parents, or family, or older siblings. Cosby was about a father, Full House was about men raising 3 girls (although people are blinded by this with the whole Olson twin rage), and Family Ties about the older son going off to meet girls, getting a car etc.

Bt Boy Meets World had a new concept, a show about the middle child. Your average kid America. A kid we could see the show through his eyes, and relate to many of the things he faced. At the core of the show, we see a young man learning to understand the balance between having a best friend, an incredible girlfriend, and at the same time try balacing those 2 with the proper authority from his family, teachers, and variuos fun characters (Frankie specifically for me).

My favorite season f this show was the 1st. The episode that particularly made me want to write was titled "On The Fence" where Corey realises at teh end of the show that his dad is in his world 'Superman'. I know I know...a little cheasy, but none the less touching. You can't deny this show that. It touched you on a different level then Full House. It ommitted the cheesy music cues; sometimes, and had a great set of characters that everyone loved to watch.
