Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner Vie to Play J.R. Ewing in 'Dallas' Movie

Mel Gibson and Kevin Costner have joined the list of A-list actors under consideration for the role of J.R. Ewing in the upcoming big-screen version of the classic TV show "Dallas.”
John Travolta has emerged as the leading contender for the role, but no decision will be made until the script is rewritten, according to the trade publication Variety.

Gibson is said to be considering the role, and Costner wants to see the rewrite before deciding if he’s interested. Tommy Lee Jones’ name has also surfaced.

Whoever lands the part will join what’s likely to be a star-studded cast.
Jane Fonda is reportedly being eyed for the role of Miss Ellie, played by Barbara Bel Geddes in the TV soap opera, while Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Lopez and Demi Moore are the favorites to play Sue Ellen (Linda Gray’s TV role).

Drew Barrymore and Reese Witherspoon are being courted for the role of Pamela (Victoria Principal), Jessica Simpson and Lindsay Lohan are contenders for Lucy (Charlene Tilton) and Owen Wilson is among those under consideration for Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy).

I read that John Travolta won the part of JR.

Jane Fonda as Miss Ellie.

Of those stars I'd probably go with Mel Gibson. I just hope they don't screw it all up.

wow... I agree with TJL, Im uneasy bout some of these choices, especially Lindsay Lohan. I'm kinda glad it might be a star studded cast, since it has a better chance of not being such a flop. Guess we'll see in time!

Of what's rumored, I'd like:
JR: Mel Gibson
Sue Ellen: Catherine Zeta-Jones
Bobby: Owen Wilson's brother, whats his name...lol
Pam: Reese Witherspoon
Lucy: Jessica Simpson
Miss Ellie: Jane Fonda

There's only one man who can play J.R. Ewing and he's already done it...Larry Hagman!!

Enough with these tired remakes!!

On the other hand, if I was going to write this movie, I would have the plot based around J.R. running for governor of Texas. J.R. could have a press conference to announce his candidacy. Then, they could cut to Cliff and Sue Ellen watching the press conference in a motel room together. I believe Cliff had been a senator at one time, right?? So, he would be compelled to try and sabotage his campaign. J.R. would be forced to divest himself of Ewing Oil, so Bobby would take control, which would not sit well with ol' J.R.

But getting back to reality, I hope they don't do this!

Or go the full camp route and do the movie that was being rumored back in the '80s: Dallas Vs. Dynasty!!

Jack would be better in the role of Jock. Or he also wouldn't make a bad "Digger Barnes"

Jane fona is too darn young to be Miss Ellie, now Shirley McClaine would be a better choice.

Jane Fonda is ten years older than Barbara Bel Geddes was when she started playing Miss Ellie.

I still think she's wrong for the part, imo.

Oh, wow, I didn't even know there was going to be a movie. Shows how out of the loop I am. Can't picture either of these 2 as J.R., great actors that they are.
