The cast and crew decided to call it quits. Good thing, too. Season 9 was not as good as the first 8.

It was also the last season because ABC said they would not renew it for a 10th season.

The 9th season should have never happened. The 9th season featured the Lottery, Dan having to go to California to care for his sick mother, then his affair, then Darlene's premature baby, and then a bunch of nothing. Should have never happened. The heart attack junk should have never happened either. Darlene and David's wedding should have been it.

Roseanne was actually angling for a 10th season, but ABC didn't think it would fly. And the cost would have killed it. Seems ironic now, considering that many shows with ratings lower than "Roseanne"s 9th season ocst more to their respective networks.

Default Do you think?

But do you think that she would have ended the series the same way in season 8 as she did in season 9, stating that in fact seasons 3-8 were all a fantasy of hers?

The show got stale really after the 7th season... the 4th through 6th seasons were the best.

Season 8 was a nice return to form, and Season 9 I love just because it is such an oddity -- it's as if it's a completely different show; it was something fresh and interesting.

Season 6 was the worst ... Seasons 7 and 5 were a bit better, and the first 4 were all classics.

That would have definitely made a wonderful final episode of the show, assuming they would have left off the heart attack. I'd agree that the final season of Roseanne is no gem, with it pretty much looking like they had overstayed their welcome on ABC.

roseanne did want to do a tenth season, but every member of the cast except for sara gilbert did not want to do another season. abc also said if the ratings were not up by the end of season 9 the the producers of abc said they would not renew the show for a tenth season. roseanne did state that if there were a tenth season, that season would have been without dan (since john goodman was basically out of the show in season 9) and mark and becky would not be having a baby, same with leon and scott, and the whole season would be with darlene still pregnant and would have her baby as the show's finale. the finale would be the same as the season 9 finale, except with a third part. that part would be darlene going into labor, and the finale of season 9 would be parts 2 and 3. but even roseanne knew a season 10 definitly was not going to happen, so it ended the way it ended. the show's last season far from the point of the show, and was in a way disgusting after watching every episode and laughing and knowing how realistic it was. though i did watch it, and it was exciting and good to watch. but you have to admit every show on tv has all time low ratings for the last couple of seasons. oh well, the show ended the way it did.

Maybe I didn't understand that last post right, but I think 2 whole seasons (plus a couple eps from season 8) would have been too long for Darlene to be pregnant. That wouldn't really make sense...
Maybe you meant that would have still been the season 9 finale? I dunno, I got a little confused.

(or maybe it wasn't that confusing at all and I just can't read )

yeah, your right-the series finale would be the same series finale as season nine for season 10 except with a third part. and darlene would be pregnant for 2 whole seasons.
