I had a crazy idea the other day and wondered what everyone though of it. Have you ever heard of those recipee swaps where you send out like five recipees and get a bunch in return. I was kinda thinking of starting a group to do something kinda like that with tv shows. Don't jump on me yet, let me explain. Right now I've got a bunch of DVDs at my house from a trade that went wrong. I'm sure most people have some just laying around. Also, there are tons of shows on here that I never heard of before coming on this board and still have never seen. What if we could set up a group where once a month or once every two months, we would all send each other one or two random discs. It would be kinda fun and we'd probably get to see shows we've never seen before. We could also have themes where one month we would trade scifi, one month dramas, that type of thing. You could opt in or out each month due to your trade load or interest in the subject. The group would be highly moderated so that it would be a group of established traders.
Any thoughts? |

...Or else post the stuff you have lying around. You might be surprised by the response you get with just doing that.

It's less of a "I'm dying to get rid of the extra discs" as it is a "would like to sample a bunch of shows I've never seen" idea. I'm getting to the point were I'm getting a lot of stuff I have been wanting for a while and soon I feel like I won't have a want list. Maybe this way I'll find new things to want.

See you're missing the point of the established traders thing. My friends and I do the recipee thing four times a year and yes, with our extended group we get about 50 recipees each. Ours is a little more complicated and detailed though than the normal bs you get as chain letters.

I know of a couple of groups that are doing similar things to the shows
that are airing this season. From what I've been told there has been 3 major problems. 1. Organization has been at times a little difficult because trying to figure out who wants what and when to ship it etc. 2. The balance between making sure that the trades are equal. if I want 3 items from this persons list and that person wants 6 from mine how is that balanced out. 3. Current shows that end up cancelling early. How to handle this as far as trading. Other than that if it starts off organized and there is a trust factor that people will come through then it seems to work. |
