Default Chatsworth Fire Photos

Here are some photos I took of the Chatsworth, CA fire.
I've included detailed info for those who live in the area...

First set:
Top- Looking west from the Tampa Ave. overpass above the 118 freeway.

Second photo- Looking southwest from Tampa Ave just north of the 118 freeway. Note the helicopter.

Third photo- Looking west from Rinaldi St between Winnetka and Mason.

Fourth photo- Same as above but looking southwest. Smoke covering the Simi Hills in Chatsworth.

i see nothing but orange skies around here. I live 10 mins. from the beach, and in that direction, that's the only part where the skies are blue. My boyfriend may find himself stuck in traffic since the 118 is partly closed and alot of commuters will be taking the 101 north. I can clearly see the mountains and the dark smoke. There was ALOT of ashes all over my SUV, I had the windows partially down and sure enough, there was a bunch of ashes inside too. It's hot, it's terrible and with the Santa Ana's come the fires.

Four more photos...

Top- Looking west from the Nordhoff St. overpass in Northridge, near the Northridge Fashsion Center Mall.

Second photo- Looking southwest from the end of Nordhoff St. Looking across the Chatsworth reservoir. There were flames visible in this pic- to the right of that big column of smoke on the left side of photo.

Third photo- Taken just west of Chatsworth Park South. The park itself was roped off (closed). In the left background are apartments on Jeffrey Mark Court. On the right is the backfire set by the fire department.

Fourth photo- Blackened area of the Simi Hills, looking southwest. Burn area in foreground, actual fire was in background. Note the charred area on the left.

I was going to bicycle up to the 118 freeway, but there were ashes floating in the sky and I don't want to breathe that! So, I put these pictures on the computer instead. Yeah, the smoke is spreading all over the valley sky.

see how you state the top photo is looking west. I am west Baby. all that smoke is coming in this direction. i have been coughing due to the air quality and my laryngitis is not handling this well. But i would rather deal with this, then what those folks are putting up with, having to evacuate, possibly losing their homes. Sad.

The fire(s) should start heading away from you. Than Santa Ana winds have pretty much stopped and now an ocean breeze is coming in and pushing the fire(s) toward the northeast instead of the southwest.
I'm glad you're not in an evacuation area!

I was out taking pictures!
As I posted, my parents were wise buying a house miles away from mountains. I can see portions of the Simi Hills and almost all of the Santa Susana Mountains from the windows, but I am at least 5 miles away from them.
No way would I buy a house in Box Canyon, Bell Canyon or Little or Big Tujunga Canyon. Great scenery, but just too dangerous.

Sad

This is really horrible. I hate wildfires, especially when they're in the Los Angeles County. I don't want that beauty destroyed. The hills, the mountains and wildlife.

Don't get depressed guys. This happens EVERY year, the residents are used to it.

It's funny how the news outlets cover this like it's something new.

I know, but still many of homes are threatened by this fire, regardless if we experience a fire storm every year. And such, a gorgeous area as well...
