Default Old Wives' Tales

What old wives tales do you believe in, or believed at one point?
Up until the age of 17 I would never eat a banana past 6 p.m. because my older sister had told me that our mom said it was bad to eat late in the evening. We would get a stomache ache, or worse, we would get constipated. It wasn't until my dad's wife was making banana splits one late evening and when she offered me one, I told her abt not eating bananas late. She started laughing and told me that was an old wives' tale. So, I have been enjoying them past 6 p.m. ever since. Stupid huh? LOL

The whole thing about gum taking 3 years to digest if it's swallowed... but I guess it never bothered me. I always swallow my gum

To be a Broadway Freak, you must live, eat, sleep, study, devout, think, obsess, dream, believe Broadway.
You must know original & revival casts, soundtracks, performance runs, dates, theatres, numbers, how many Tony Awards A Chorus Line won.
You must be Broadway.
That's right bitches. I AM Broadway.

I always thought it was 7 years when I was growing up. Didn't do much to deter me though because for a while when I was in like 6th grade, I would use my lunch money to buy Big League Chew. Weird though, I can't remember if I swallowed.(the gum )

I was always terrified of eating the white part of a watermelon rind. My grandma said that it would make a person deathly sick! It took me years to get over that!

yeah, i had heard something like that. It took me awhile too to get over it. the gum thing just barely went away a year ago when I watched on one of those discovery channel shows that said that was a myth. your stomach will digest the gum.
