i still can't believe it because a zebras ears are more close together, almost on top of the head, versus a horse whose ears are more separated and on the sides. How was this taken care of?

You must be quite a few short of a dozen if you believe Mr. Ed was played by a zebra. The above info is from a link on the bottom of the page where the story that he was a zebra appeared.

You just can't belive everything you read but if you do, I have some beach front property in Kansas you might be interested in.

Here's the full truth:

"A zebra was briefly used in several scenes in the series when Ed was unable to some difficult stunts, but there's no truth to the myth that a zebra was used the whole time. Ed was definitely a horse!"
