Default Ep. 2.01 "Normal is the Watchword" Discussion Thread

02-01 Normal is the Watchword
Season 2 Premiere
Original Airdate: September 28, 2005

After the summer fireworks caused by a dangerous confrontation with Lilly Kane's murderer and a surprising visitor at her door, Veronica attempts to settle into "normal" life, complete with a new after-school job and a return to the popular fold at Neptune High, but she gets pulled back into the investigation business when Wallace is kicked off the basketball team for testing positive for drugs.

Meanwhile, Keith sits down with reporter Julie Chen (guest starring as herself) to discuss his new book on the Lilly Kane murder, "Big Murder, Small Town." Later, after seeing his father arrested for murder and being charged and tried for murder himself, Logan seeks refuge from the paparazzi and relaxes poolside at the Casablancas mansion with buddies Dick and "Beaver" and their sexy stepmother Kendall (guest star Charisma Carpenter).

Steve Guttenberg guest stars as Woody Goodman, a charismatic major league baseball team owner and leading candidate in the local mayor's race; UPN's AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL winner Naima Mora guest stars as journalism teacher Ms. Dumas; and Jeffery Sams guest stars as a famous baseball player from Goodman's team.

Excellent season 2 premiere, the quality picked up right where they left off.

Had a "WHOA!" moment when Veronica's co-worker said "your boyfriend's here" and it was Duncan after she'd been hanging with Logan. I was thinking how weird it still was seeing her with Logan just remembering they were enemies at the start of the series.

Looking forward to seeing how the new regulars are incorporated into the show, should be good.

I wasn't such a fan of the episode. Maybe they need a few episodes to build the season up, but I found it really lacking, especially compared to the last few episodes of last season. The in-episode mystery was weak and should have been dropped altogether and I found that Veronica was different as well.

I thought it was okay. I liked how she told what happened over the summer.

Lacking? They did a great job of showing what happened concerning Logan's arrest after the incidents of the end of season 1, created a new mystery involving the stabbing within Weevil's crew, came up with what I thought was an interesting in-episode story, ended the episode with another mystery, and introduced a couple of new characters. Not lacking at all.

Yes, there were plenty of twists in the season premiere. It's good to have the show back.

Also nice to see Charisma Carpenter return to the small screen. I wonder if the producers are going to allow her character to wear any clothing in future episodes?

Judging from last night, I doubt it. I'm thinking maybe they had no problem adding this character because it wouldn't be taxing on the show's wardrobe budget.
