Default "Giving Thanks" episode question

Hey, this is my first post. Big Night Court fan here.

I fell asleep during the end of this epsiode. Why does Dan say he can't sleep with Christene even though he wants to and has the chance to?

I think they said it was because he respects her.

You must've fallen asleep quick . After Dan stops himself you mustve been lights out.

A sec later he says he wants to but he cant, and Christine asks him if it's because he forget his batteries. He half-heartedly says yes, but she doesn't believe him, and suggests it might be because he respects her. He covers his ears yelling, hating to admit that he does.

This is one of the dynamics of Christine/Dan I love.
Christine always has Dan chasing her and she's not about to give in to him. She seems to actually enjoy making his life hell.

I always thought that deep down Christine did have a thing for Dan but her "properness" kept her from admitting it. I also always loved the Dan/Christine dynamic and unlike popular opinion, I always thought they had more chemistry together then Harry/Christine did, so in the end when it was Dan who went after Christine and not Harry I was very happy.

I'm a Harry/Christine advocate. However, in an odd way, I would have liked to have seen an episode where she "tries" to date him and Harry. Could you imagine the competitiveness there? I think that would have been hilarious! I think Christine respected Dan for the kind of person he was on the inside. The main issue with him would fidelity. Could he promise to be faithful? Due to he nature of his character, I think he would have had a hard time. Therefore, Christine needed someone more reliable like Harry. Not only that, Harry and Christine had more in common with each other. I think that would have made a difference too. Yet, I'm not saying that it wouldn't have been possible entirely.

I just thought Harry and Christine were a better match for a several reasons.

nitcrt1... we are all entitles to our opinions, the only thing is that I know I'm in the minority her. But I do have to say this in Dan's defense, if you watch the character of Dan over the seasons he did change and and by the end of season 9 he was not as sleazy as he was in previous seasons, he showed that he did have a heart. Now would Dan be unfaithful? Possibly, but it's not inconceivable that he could most definately be faithful if he, indeed, had found the "right" woman, which in the finale he believed to be Christine. But this is a case where we will never know and that fans are left debating.

By the way, I loved your idea about Christine dating both Harry and Dan. That would have been very entertaining!!!

Oh, don't get me wrong. It could have been possible for Dan to be in a monogomous relationship. I'm just not sure if Christine would have been his match. I always liked Joan Hobbeson for Dan. I thought he had real chemistry with her and those were honest feelings he had for her. My opinion is that Christine would have been good to help him develop his relationships with other women. This could have even involved dating Dan to provide him with monogomous dating etiquette. I think she could have been a good friend helping him out that way. I do believe Dan was capable of being a one woman man, and he did grow-up over the years. You're right about that.

My problem with the finale was that it was not realistic for Dan to go after Christine without a fight from Harry. I think Harry would have had a hard time dealing with Dan going after Christine, when it was Harry who was truly fond of her. He let her know this on more than one occassion. If Harry didn't like Tony trying to weasel his way back into Christine's life, he sure as heck wouldn't let Dan get a hold of her either.

Again these are just my opinions. I do know that you aren't alone in your feelings though. I think that's what keeps the message board interesting and fun.

Dan and Harry competing was explored very well in that Sela Ward episode. And the fact it was written in the show's hayday, shows I think the best and funniest exploration of what it would've been like. Harry relying on whimsy and old-time charm, Dan being....well, Dan.

When Dan proclaims his chase of Christine, at least Harry goes "My Christine??!", and then...well, that's about it lol.

I dunno, what about Dan and Roz, hehehhehe.

The Sela Ward episode was a good example of Harry and Dan competing. It also showed how Harry and Christine were very much alike. You also point out something important. Harry relied on whimsy and charm and Dan relied on being himself. Dan being himself would have been a turn off for Christine, I think.

As for the finale, Harry did say that, "My Christine!" but we don't know what happened after that. That's why we need some sort of reunion tv-movie. Until then, we'll just have to use our imaginations.

Dan and Roz would be a pretty funny match.

I don't care what people say, but that soft Dan isn't Dan.
I believe he's an evil doppleganger of the real Dan Fielding of seasons past.

It would have been more interesting if they had continued with a story about what actually happened to the real womanizing sleazeball Dan Fielding.
I mean, this is Night Court after all.

Unfortunately they didn't get that far.
Good idea for a bad fan fiction, however.

Hey, the "Night Court" Fan Fiction site is always looking for submissions. Maybe you could write your idea down.

As for Dan's "change", you're right. Dan is Dan. That's why people loved to hate him so much, because he was so good at it. Besides, Dan got all the women. Harry didn't always. He was pretty much unlucky in love. That's why I felt Harry should have been the one to end up with Christine. He deserved it!

For some reason, I would have found it fun to watch Dan Fielding fight his evil twin.

Man, they sure messed with the show when Weege left. Like so many cult hits (Roseanne and Sliders among the many) , NC met with a weird end.

Romance and story arcs in the last seasons? What? I thought they went for sexual tension on this show more than anything. I see it as the Sex and the City of the 1980s. It was shocking, fresh and got away with a lot.

I kinda liked the exploration of "nice" Dan. He was so swishy and ooey gooey sweet that I laughed. But his change back to "normal" Dan was "only on tv" garbage of him being slapped and jogging his memory or whatever.
