Default Finally watched the 1993 show "Getting By" and it looked like it could have

been Family Matters spinoff. I guess that was because both shows were produced by the same company. But the guy who played Marcus in this show was trying to be too cool where it got to a point he was just looking ********. BUD from the Cosby show also was in Getting By and he was pretty much the character he was on The Cosby Show. I guess it was a OK show but nothing i would have made sure i didn't miss. I would have just caught the show when I caught it.

Yes, I remember the show having a Family Matters type of feel to it. Both Deon Richmond and Merlin Santana appeared on the Cosby Show together before they did this show. It wasn't spectacular but I think I watched every episode.

The Cindy Williams character in this show reminded me of Shirley Feeney

I read back in early 1993 that that was what they were going for. RTVC, I am surprised that you are just now watching it? I remember the article for the show. IT was to be a midseason replacement show on TGIF. Telma Hopkins was also doing "Family Matters" at the time. It was stated that she would return to "Family Matters" after the 13 episode commitment of "Getting By". I could not wait for the show to be over with. Telma did come back in February 1993 but did one sceners. In one episode when Mother Winslow was getting remarried, all she did was sing at the wedding. I think she was doing double duty and probably had to remember lines for "Getting By" . I was happy that she was back.

Critics deemed "Getting By" as "The biggest piece of trash". I was upset when NBC wanted to add it to the fall lineup with Saved By The Bell:TCY's. Telma left Family Matters at the end of season four and did "Getting By" and the show was canceled in the middle of the 93-94 season. NBC aired some leftover eps during the summer. Telma went back to "Family Matters" on recurring status and then disappeared until 1997 when she made a cameo.

Solomon, what episode and which season did you watch?

I remember on friday night watching Harriette, Rachel and Mother Winslow going to a strip club while Venus De Milo Thomas(one of Laura's friends) guest starred and then one hour later, we see Rachel still in Chicago but as Delores on "Getting By" and Venus DeMilo Thomas was started some conflice between Delores' sons. I was glad Rachel came back. BTW, I made an error from my previous post. Rachel did have at least one line on the wedding episode of FM in addition to her singing "inseperable".

I think it should've been a Family Matters spinoff. Have Telma Hopkins reprise the Rachel character and bring along Bryton McClure as Richie. It would've made a lot more sense than to have Richie stay at the Winslows' without his mother.
