Should this show have added another maid after Florida Evans? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I really saw no reason for another maid to be added after Florida left. Florida wasn't seen that much to be replaced by another acrtress. I think the show would have been fine continuing on with another maid. What do you think?

I think it would have been fine without a maid. Florida's character seemed to serve a purpose (i.e., Maude's misplaced liberalism and trying to "overcompensate" because Florida was black). Once Florida left, they should have left that spot open. I haven't seen a lot of the Mrs. Naugatuck eps, but I don't recall her being that memorable.

Be very glad you didn't see a lot of Mrs. Naugatuck, she was nothing but a drunk-lol

What was the 3rd maid like? Victoria Butterfield or something. I NEVER caught any eps with her. I don't suppose she was like Florida at all.

That's the Maid I haven't seen yet. She was on toward the end of the series.

I can't remember the Butterfield maid a whole lot, but to me she was just the "fill-in-the spot maid." They just needed somebody to fill in the maid slot near the end and it didn't matter if she was good or not. They probably already knew the show was going to attempt a format change anyhow.
Maude and Carol could've kept that house clean.

About the only thing Victoria had in common with Florida was being black.Victoria is probably the least remembered out of the three maids Maude had,on account of how she had joined the cast during what became the series' last season.
