Finally! A new sitcom we love! "Everybody Hates Chris" was not only very funny, it also had heart. It's a rare combination these days. And the fight scene showing the passage of time with "Ebony and Ivory" as a backdrop was very creative. The final scene when Chris' dad checks in on him at night was very heartfelt and struck a perfect balance for the hilarious dialogue and situations.

I liked it too. It took me back to when I was that age. It was a funny episode, pleasantly appealing.

I saw the premiere episode and i think this show is going to be a hit. To me, it's a cross between The Wonder Years and Crooklyn. Tyler James Williams was outstanding as young Chris and Chris Rock's narration was amusing. The best scene was when Chris fought the bully Caruso while Ebony and Ivory played in the background.
What makes the show even better is that it's not another dysfunctional family comedy where Mom constantly yells at her boys or barges in and crticizes nonstop. It's about a family that does love each other, despite living in a tough environment like Bedford-Stuyvesant. UPN could have their first hit show since Moesha. If you didn't see the first episode, watch or set your VCR for next week's show. You'll be impressed! |

Hopefully Pavan or somebody will have the ratings later today, but I just heard on the radio that Chris got better numbers than Joey last night.

Saw it last night. Wasn't bad. I liked the part where he stood up to that fat white bully. Also, when his brother knew that girl he liked, that was funny.

Chris beats Joey in timeslot among adults 18-49, 3.2 rating to a 3.0. Love, Inc. dropped to a 2.0, though.
Final overall ratings are not released yet, but UPN is reporting that the show beat Joey by a few thousand viewers overall, with 7.6 million viewers! |

I watched and then realized during the episode that I'm not a fan of family comedies anymore so i turned back to Joey on NBC.

"Survivor: Guatemala," 10.2/16, easily won the 8 p.m. hour for CBS. A repeat of "Dancing with the Stars: Dance-off" put ABC in second with a 5.7/9, just ahead of the hour-long premiere of "Joey," 5.6/9, on NBC. "Everybody Hates Chris" posted a 4.6/7 for UPN (and virtually tied "Joey" in total viewers), but its lead-out, "Love, Inc.," dropped to 2.9/5, giving UPN a 3.8/6 for the hour and fifth place behind FOX and "The O.C."
What this says is that Joey is dead in the water. Expect Alias or Chris to beat it each week. |

I haven't been curious about seeing the first episode of a show since Cosby Show in 1984 so I can't quite form an opinion about this show yet. I tend to get into shows once they've been on awhile or in syndication. To me the acting seemed a bit raw, like the actor that plays Chris needs to get more comfortable with the part, but perhaps that kind of thing is normal for shows esp for a young actor. I can only compare it to Malcolm in the Middle. I saw the first episode of that recently and Frankie Muniz seemed more fully defined and comfortable in the part. It seems like the Chris actors are more feeling how to get comfortable with the characters. Terry Crews and the woman from Martin have played such cartoonish characters in other things that it seems like they (esp. Crews) are having to reign themselves in here. This isn't appointment Tv for me, but I'll give it another shot when I have time. |
