Which series did you like better: Petticoat Junction or Green Acres?

I can't decide! It's treat to have them both on video.

That's really hard to say because I liked them both in different ways.I liked the simple charm(and the attractive girls)of Petticoat Junction, but I also liked the Screwball Comedy on Green Acres.

They worked together visiting each other. It is a shame some jerk at CBS canceled them in an anti -rural move. America needs these kind of shows

Thumbs up which is best? PJ or GA

Green Acres is my favorite between the two. The Humor bore a great parody to the times. Life really can be as simple as that depicted in the show. I would find that if the humor existed also that it would make current world affairs seem surreal.

Default Perricoat Juncion Vs Green Acres

I would have to pick Petticoat Juncion that is one of my favorite shows and I enjoyed watching it on TV-Land before.

Merry Christmas

Although Green Acres was funnier, I still have to put PJ as the best of the 2. It was just an anachronistic setting in which simplicity and loyalty always won out over threats from outsiders/ 'city slickers.' G A was much more surreal and mocked everything as could be done in the confines of pre-1970's television. They were both good in their own way. I think the worst things about both of them was that the main comic playing off the 'straight' character was overdone... Uncle Joe was too lazy and selfish and Lisa Douglas was too scatterbrained.

Green Acres - it had a warped sense of humor and so do I.

"Petticoat Junction" is my favorite one. It was more saner and more down to earth. When it was on the air, if I had a bad day I can count on the show to cheer me up.

Me too by far. I LOVED Petticoat Junction and esp. Bea Benaderet. Bea (God rest her soul) did a MAGNIFICENT job as Kate. IMO, the series really seemed to fall apart after her passing. I never really cared for Green Acres - I'd watch it as a kid - but now - if someone gave me the entire GA series, I'd trade it in a minute for 5 eps of Petticoat Junction. I really wished PJ would start to get released in Seasons the way other sitcoms have.

Petticoat Juntion. Green Acres was fun in the beginning, but too corny after awhile. The county agent drove me crazy as he did Oliver. Loved the character of Sam Drucker on both shows, I think that goes way back to when he was on Ozzie and Harriet.

I'll go with Green Acres, although I agree Green Acres started losing steam in it's later seasons. Perhaps that's why those final three seasons have yet to be issued on DVD. Green Acres is more farcial, more of a laugh out loud type of show. Petticoat Junction is a bit more subdued, more cerebral. It's like comparing Bewitched with I Dream Of Jeannie, or The Addams Family with The Munsters. All these shows have merit, each has qualities that separate it from the other. It all comes down to what each individual prefers.

CBS cut ties with these rural sitcoms after the 1970-71 season. They could have let them run another season (71-72) but basically they ended em at the right time. As the 70's came in, things were changing and more socially themed shows like All In The Family started hitting the airwaves.

Green Acres was a slapstick show and I thought Petticoat Junction was more like a warm, fuzzy family sitcom. I think Green Acres was funny for a few years and then it just got dumb. Petticoat Junction had a lot of heart, but I think it should have ended when Bea Benaderet died. She really was the glue on that show. I venture to say "The Beverly Hillbillies" ran too long, too, by about three years. When they started going to England & Central Park, you knew the show was over.

I totally agree with you about The Beverly Hillbillies. The first few years were so funny and I couldn't wait for it to come on each week. I don't even remember the last few years at all. I probably didn't watch any of them.

Petticoat Junction all the way! I watched GA as a kid, but when trying to watch most recently when it was on ION or TV Land, I found myself becoming very impatient with it. Now CBS just needs to get on the ball and just RELEASE THE SERIES ON DVD!!!
