Every time I watch it now all I can think of is how could such a beautiful person like Bob Denver be gone so soon. He seemed so young and vibrant and sweet and now he's gone and I just start to cry.
Especially when I see what I call his "sad beatnik eyes" (you know what I mean!). I just feel my heart stop and tears stream down my cheeks. I thought I would have a BD marathon in tribute to him, but it only yanks at my heart. This is similar to how I felt when George Harrison died, I couldn't look at anything Beatles related for a long time and I still feel sadness when I do.Will I ever recover? Cynthia Marie |

Hi,Cynthia!
I understand how you feel.I just can't watch G.I either right now.I think that the lost of our beloved little buddy is too fresh in our memory.I felt the same way about Alan Hale,Bill Bixby and John Ritter.I thought my heart was going to explose everytime I heard their voices on tv. Trust me,this could take a while but, you'll be able to watch Gilligan's Island again.Don't rush yourself, you will feel it when the right time will arrive. Take care of yourself*** Céline |

It is really hard to believe that Bob Denver is gone. For so many of us he was an icon and a touchstone because his most famous role fooled everyone, including him, and has been in syndication for 40 years with no end in sight.
We remember identifying with Gilligan when we were small children and it pleased us later as adults to hear that Bob was someone who didn't mind being interviewed, approached in public, called Gilligan during phone-in shows---probably because he understood what it was like to be a fan and feel a connection to people one has never really met before. Unfortunately, like all of us, Bob grew old----and, like some of us, grew desperately ill, but Gilligan lives forever as the young and vibrant 20-something, all at once both naive and wise, as only someone with no deceit can be. We like Gilligan for a lot of reasons, but probably most deeply because he is open and accepting in a way the world can easily beat out of us. |

Hi all. I was fooled into thinking that Bob was quite a bit younger than he really was, because he was playing younger characters. Maynard was supposed to be a teenager in high school while Bob was really in his mid 20's, while Gilligan was supposed to be in his early 20's and Bob was more like 30! He seemed to look young for his age at the time, so I was thinking he was born in the 40's, around the same age as the Beatles, but Bob was actually born in the 30's, around the same age as Elvis! (Almost the exact same age, actually.)
40 years isn't *that* long of a time. . .is it? There are some episodes in particular (that deal with death and dying) that are just not very cool to watch right now, like "X Marks the Spot", "Gilligan Gets Bugged", "Meet the Meteor", "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" (which I never liked anyway), etc. Cynthia Marie P.S. I have absolutely no idea why my sig isn't working.

Sig's only work once, every page in a thread. For example, if this thread amounts to 10 pages, and you posted once on every one, your sig would show up 10 times.

Can we count Tina Louise among the dead ones? I know she's still alive, but Gilligan's Island fans would probably get more feedback from her if she wasn't. Talk about ego....if she doesn't realize what a treat it was to be Ginger, that's her problem. On the other hand, she'd probably be glad to be Ginger now....she's about 70 and still dyes her hair red, which makes her look about 170. Last pic I saw of her she looked more like Alice Cooper. If she ever went back on Broadway with Carol Burnett it would have to be in "The Elephant Man"

That was pretty mean and bitter, MadScientist----did you get up on the wrong side of the hammock today? Take one of Mr. Howell's tranquilizers and chill out.

Can't you at least try to understand why Tina would not want to hang on to *one* character she played for a few years in the 60's and wanted to move on? You act like she *owes* the fans to "be Ginger". Cynthia Marie P.S. Please show us a pic of yourself when *you* reach the big 7-0. |

His death didn't really hit me a few months ago. But now, I can't believe it. It's so sad.
