Default REN & STIMPY

Anyone out there enjoying the rebroadcast of the Ren & Stimpy show on the "N"? I am. I am a big fan of this classic cartoon. I have two VHS tapes of them. They made me laugh so hard. I love them. They are awesome characters.

I don't get Nicktoons TV, but I have every episode either on VHS's I bought in the 90's or on DVD from today. I also taped a whole bunch from TNN when Adult Party Cartoon was still airing. They used to air the classics right after. I am a bigger Rocko fan but R&S are still very funny

Rocko is pretty cool too. My daughter would watch it and I would end up liking whatever she would watch.

Default The music of REN AND STTIMPY (NOT Raymond Scott or that blues band)

What set REN AND STIMPY apart, soujndtrackwise, especially before 1995 (see below) was the use of the old 1930s-early 1960s production music from Capitol & Associated libraries of music.

The music by the now-altered POWDERED TOAST MAN (August 15, 1992), esp.when Powdie unties the Zappa-pope, is CLEARLY for that reason the VERY same as in YOGI BEAR or MY LITTLE MARGIE (1951-54,with katie Holmes/Ann Hathaway-of-her time-mixed with Amkanda Bynes and Lucille Ball- Gale Storm, another sadly underrated icon of the era,) or GUMBY or SUPERMAN or OZZIE AND HARRIED or MY THREE SONS or LEAVE IT BEAVER or FATHER KNOWS BEST!!

The composers, by the wya, were (in ADDITION to the Raymond Scott and Screamin' Lederhosen (In studio abnd) tracks:
Lauirie Johnson (like in the first Nickelodoen broadcast one-after the edited and then banned BIG HOUSE BLUES was pilot---STIMPYS BIG DAY/BIG SHOT!-under Rewn sayin' "No, man, never forgive you, nope" before tyring to make it up to "Steemppy: )-a pleasant little needledrop tune (what those cues wwere called back "in the day' in the TV/raidio/animation/recoridng trade!) called HAppy-go-lively, REPLETE WITH STRINGS.

John Seely & Lud Gluskin (the main west coast music directors, the former with Capitol Records and behind the fall 1958 Warner Bros.shorts--WEASEL WHILE YOU WORK, BIRD IN A BONNETT,PREHYSTERYCAL HARE,HOOK LINE AND STINKER,GOPHER BROKE and HIP HIP HURRY using these music libraries--and the second being WEST COAST CBS music director bakc in the 1950s--and, un justly IMO banned from the musicians union--the same one that went on strike and caused the scoring of the Warner Bros.shorts mentioned above to happen as such-as). Possibly compsoers too,Seely died last year

William G Loose - wrote many of themes GUMBY, Hanna Barbera and then partner-through-Columbia Pictures Screen Gems (DONNA REED, FATHER KNOWS BEST,DENNIS THE MENACE,early BEWITCHED)-it's HIS DENNIS theme you hear in a 1958 ROAD RUNNER, the aforemnetioned HOOK, LINE & STINKER (October 11,1958;Looney Tune)-too many to mention. Loose semed to specialise in mos Columbia(Sony now) thmes of B&W era thru DENIS. His muisic in GUMBY is memeorable--just watch the (pre-1988; WORLD ACCORIDNG TO GUMKBY at an out-of-print specailty mom and pop store might be of help given the VERY CONTROVEERSIAL GUMBY resoundtrack due to musical/mechanical rights issues better explained ELSEWHERE!).
Loose was born 1911 and died in 1991.

Goerge Hormel-One of the composers of the mre memorable REN ANDSTIMPY themes, that YOGI and DONNA REED music had (though Screamin' Ledferhosen, Hoyt Curtin, and William Loose (and possibly John Seely) did the respective themes for those NICK AT NITE tunes.)

Phil Green--1911-1982 (thansk,ROBERT FARNON society--see below) A subconctrtactor with Capitol,I duno if REN AND STIMPY ujsed this..but QUICK DRAW and every LIVE counterpart using stock music (many of them in the western pahse of the fifties!) used a lot of bis surprisngly effective and surprsingly WESTERN tunes..) RURAL FOX TROT, Original EM-CT-7 (that's what it was called when Capitol reissued it;in the Looney Tune GOPHER BROKE it mis the opening theme under the credits;it is also a recurring tune)
and one of the most POPUALR 1950s TV scores..TOYLAND BRUGLAR reused in MANY a Hanna Barbera QUICK DRAW (that, plus SNOOPER SNOPPER and AUGIE DOGGIE) short (it's also severla times in GUMBY too, a calm and mysterious kiddie-like tune sort like LITTLE DRUMMER BOY which it predates only moderaterly faster--if ya watched HOOK LINE & STINKER with WIle E.,it's the one that his own baseball bat (after the 'Runner foils it!) clobber the Coyote';s butt too.)(Also briefly used iN Foghorn Leghorn's WEASEL WHIOLE YOU WORK when "Brer Doggy"(as I call that beagle with an axe to grind-both lierally and figuratively, against The Leghorn) gets dumped on snow courteys of Foghorn, so that the weasel in sverla of these cartoons cna have a meal.

Jack Shaindlin-Responbile for MANY canned PIXIE AND DIXIE tunes and POSSIBLY the tune that PTM in the controversial first half hour second season R&S eppy(the one that followed the Raymond Scott debut in the series,IN THE AMRY NOW), POWDERED TOAST MAN,unties the pope to--and other tunes.

Spence Mooe created an odd novlety basson stock for Capitol. It's not (to my knowledge) a REN and STIMPY peice buit was used in these carotons

[all from 1958,by the way;this was the year that Warner Bros.,as we know, sued this msuic due to a strike ]

LITTLE BIRDMOUSE (Pixie and Dixie)
FLY GUY (Yogi)
GOPHER BRIOKE (Goofy Gophers,Dog)

Sounding like..this.
with a bassoon--BUMP.....BUMP...BUMP....BUMP........BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMPPPP..very amusing and eerie-especially in the last named short where the Warner Bros."Chipo and Dale ripoffs with politeness to a fault"(making them sound loike DONNA REED which also debuted then and other shows that also used this music with their politeness only in a sharply satiricial way), wreck the potentially enemy-let's make that DEFINITE enemey-the dog from the studio's won Fpoghorn series I alldued to above, (Robert McKimson's effort here) a la Chuck Jones's 1948 HUBEI AND BERTIE classic MOUSE WRECKERS (Mike maltese who wrote that earlier one, reused this in QUICK DRAW-another conneciton to HB -Mike wrote 'em all.Ted Peirce wrot ethe GOPHER toon).

Emil Cadkin, Alex Lazlo, Alex COmpkinksy (BOZO), Jack Roberts (Beany Boy)<the Fartnons and Chudnow familys and Raoul Kraushhaar are among the MANY composers RENA NDS TIMPY and even SPONGEBOOB (my nickname for it..sorry.)and othes have used.

(This is in HUGE contrast to Klasky-Csupo dominance--AS TOLD BE GINGER, RIUGBRATS, WILD BERRIES, AHH RELA MOSNTERS< etc etc etc rtc) which sue their OWN dedictaed music.

MY THREE SONS and GUMBY, in particular would use this 1940s on music as late as 1965 (when it swithced webs) and till 1967 when ikt was intermixed with more modenr meedledorp musc.

That baove may have been from Capitol Music's later Ole George era, which contineud to trot out those belvoed REN AND STIMPY 9using the conneciton to stay OT BTW) till 1995--which is when the guy DROPPED the library.

So far some but not all are licneced..DVD rights CAN include it but ONLY with STRICT re-registration..and even when Arthur Clokey revived GUMBY 20 years for new coach potato buds for money reasons he resoudntracked the music (a la a legal issue then and pending over Disney moviesthru SLEEPING BEAUTY & LADY AND THE TRAMP at least).

Sorrry for a ong but HOPEFULLY interesting post. I've typed about this constantly..see BIG CARTOON DATABSE: FORUMS: GENERAL DISCUSSIONS: HANNA-BARBERA: H-B and GUIMBY nusic cues (started NOT by me,btw) for more on this,
'
Scremaing Lederhosen,by the wya,is the in house blues=polka group, and Raymond Scott records are also welcome to ehar on the soudntrack (like Capiotol's music, after Associated Production Music, which was there form day uno, started noticably on the first 2nd.season R&S on Niceklodeon.)

d always..
"Happy Happy Joy Joy":.
