NEW YORK (YO!): With WNEW, WRKS, WQHT, WKTU, and WDBZ already playing disco and dance music, the last thing New York City needed was another disco station. But on 108.9 FM, yet another Big Apple disco station, FKYU, hit the airwaves, playing nothing but 12" remixes of classic disco hits and hip-hop/dance songs of today. Rock fans in the Big Apple, who'd lost enough of their stations to dance formats, finally had enough. Today, they stormed into the FKYU studios, yanked it off the air, and destroyed the station bit by bit. Beatles, Stones, and Dylan fans smashed the CD's, Who, Hendrix, and Clash fans pulverized the equipment with sledgehammers, and U2, Nirvana, and Ramones fans tore down the antenna.
![]() Then Elvis Costello fans suddenly suggested too late if maybe they could have saved some of the equipment for a rock station. Kiss fans simply torched the place when it was all over.

You hear that sort of thing in a lot of places. That's not my milieu. Rock and roll is good-time music. I love rock. So did my parents. |

actually it's pretty cool that NYC has dance stations, nobody else does. One thing that seriously pissed me off about the radio here is that D.H.T. recently hit the top 10 with a remake of Roxette's "Listen To Your Heart", and the original version DHT recorded was a dance track, but then the female singer re-recorded the song as a dull Sarah McLachlanish piano ballad... and that's the version the top 40 station here played. Yet you'll never hear them playing alternate "ballad" remixes of Ciara songs, but the originals, it pisses me off.

NYC is a disco town. Radio programmers have made that clear to roc kfnas who have no choice but to put up or shut up!
