How do you upload a VIDEO from a digital camera onto the computer? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I have a new digital camera I got and took a short video on my vacation. It's just a regular kodak easyshare camera. It has a video mode on it so that's how I took the video. Well, when I plug it into my computer it automatically uploads the pictures I took, but it doesn't do anything with the video I have on there. I can't even figure out how to do it manually. I have a mac computer and there is an iMovie section to make movies, but it just shows how to upload videos from camcorders. I know there has to be SOME way to upload the video onto your computer- or else why would they make it have a video mode?

what type of camera is it?

most cameras include special software that allows computers to view your camera's memory as a "removable drive" when plugged in, you need to find out if THAT camera has something similar for the Mac

when you've got it set up properly, you can drag-and-drop the file to wherever you want on your computer

Did your camera come with a USB port? I work with Mac's at school and hook my camera up to it all the time. If your camera came with one, then plug it into your camera and the USB end goes into your keyboard. Turn the camera on, and it should come up as a removable drive on your computer.

But knowing Kodak, you most likely didn't get an USB cable for your camera...I work with Nikons only.

I figured it out! Well, from the help of my friend who has a mac, too. I used the software that came with it and that does have a way to upload a video. I just never noticed it the first time!

actually mine did come with a USB cord. Did they not used to come with them or something?

Yeah, the early digital cameras didn't. I remember when the first models used to take 3.5" floppy disks, this was in the late 90's. You took pictures then you took the disk out and put the disk into your computer to get the pics.

My dad got a Kodak camera in 2000 or so, and his didn't come with an USB cord- it came with only a loading dock, which was a major pain in the ass when his camera died. They still do the loading dock thing, but it looks like they added a USB port feature so you can transfer pictures via USB instead of via the loading dock.

I just wanted to know the Model # and/or series so I could look at the right manual for it....

the info on the EasyShare software is here and the support pages for each type of camera are here - but you need to know what model you have to access them

I would say that if you have the software that came with the camera installed, just plug in the camera, turn it on then open your file manager and see if the camera shows up as a removable drive...
