Annual Summertime Event to Include a Bonus Night as Party Crasher
Fridays Features a Different Sitcom Every Week NEW YORK, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Once again, viewers can enjoy their air conditioned living rooms all summer long as Nick at Nite pre-empts its entire primetime line-up to bring back It's a Block, Block, Block Party Summer -- the network's refreshing programming event in which six episodes of the same show are featured, back-to-back, from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. (ET/PT). Beginning on Sunday, July 2 through Friday, September 1 Block, Block, Block Party Summer will I Love Lucy Sundays; The Andy Griffith Show Mondays; Gilligan's Island Tuesdays; Beverly Hillbillies Wednesdays and Brady Bunch Thursdays. As a bonus, Nick at Nite will add a new element to its annual summertime event with Party Crasher Fridays which celebrates a different sitcom every Friday with its own three-hour block. While many Nick at Nite favorites -- such as Bewitched, Happy Days and The Jeffersons -- will crash the Block Party, other series not regularly available in the Place for TV Hits will also take over a Friday such as Head of the Class (July 7), Perfect Strangers (July 14) and My Favorite Martian (August 11). "We think this year's Block Party Summer will go swimmingly as Nick at Nite offers a getaway from the broadcast networks' primetime reruns," explains Jim Burns, Senior Vice President of Nick at Nite Programming and Creative. "After beating the heat during the brutal months of July and August, viewers can kick off their sandals, relax by the soothing glow of their television and enjoy some of refreshing sitcoms from the past forty years." LUCY SUNDAYS The only way to cure the Sunday night blues and gear up for another week of work is to engross yourself in the misadventures of everyone's favorite red-head, Lucy Ricardo. One of television's most enduring and treasured sitcoms, I Love Lucy follows the life of Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball), a wacky Manhattan housewife whose antics and schemes make life difficult for her sometimes hot-headed husband and nightclub band leader, Ricky (Desi Arnaz). Residing just downstairs are the Ricardo's best friends and landlords, Fred Mertz (William Frawley), and his wife, Ethel (Vivian Vance), Lucy's partner in mischief. ANDY GRIFFITH MONDAYS It's like having a virtual summer home in the mountains complete with a neighborhood where everyone knows your name, as the town of Mayberry takes over Nick at Nite every Monday night. The Andy Griffith Show revolves around the town of Mayberry, North Carolina where the widowed Sheriff Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith) keeps peace at home and at work. The other Mayberry folks include: Andy's wiry partner, and cousin, Deputy Barney Fife (Don Knotts), who often locks himself in the jail cell; Andy's Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier), who acts as combination housekeeper and foster mom to Andy's son, Opie (Ronny Howard); Gomer Pyle (Jim Nabors), a gas station attendant; Floyd Lawson (Howard McNear), the town barber; Otis Campbell (Hal Smith), the town drunk who lets himself in and out of jail each day; Goober Pyle (George Lindsay), Gomer's cousin; Helen Crump (Anita Corsaut), Andy's girlfriend and Opie's teacher; and Thelma Lou (Betty Lynn), Barney's girlfriend. TV Land has acquired the rights to this highly-rated and enduring sitcom and will air all 274 episodes of the series. GILLIGAN'S ISLAND TUESDAYS The original survivors -- the castaways of Gilligan's Island -- show that living on a private oasis isn't as bad as it's made out to be ... unless you really hate coconuts. Tune into Nick at Nite on Tuesdays for Sherwood Schwartz' creation, inspired by Robinson Crusoe. The S.S. Minnow crew of two -- the bumbling, Gilligan (Bob Denver) and the Skipper, Jonas Grumby (Alan Hale, Jr.) -- get their passengers to safety and then spend the next four years trying to get themselves off of the island. The other survivors include: Thurston Howell III (Jim Backus) and his wife Lovey (Natalie Schafer), who are worth millions of dollars; Ginger Grant (Tina Louise), a Hollywood movie star; Mary Anne Summers (Dawn Wells), an all-American girl from Kansas; and the Professor Roy Hinkley (Russell Johnson), a scientist. BEVERLY HILLBILLIES WEDNESDAYS Half-way through the week, the living seems easy so kick up your heels every Wednesday to get a healthy-helping of The Beverly Hillbilies' concrete swimming holes, possum pies and Granny's melodic, "JED!!!!" This fish-out-of-water sitcom follows the Hillbilly Clampett family who move from the Ozarks to Beverly Hills, California after they discover oil in their backyard and strike it rich. Jed (Buddy Ebsen), a widower with daughter -- Elly May (Donna Douglas) and nephew Jethro Bodine (Max Baer, Jr) -- lives in a luxurious mansion with the ever-feisty Granny (Irene Ryan). Their money is safe and sound at Drysdale's Commerce Bank, which is run by Mr. Drysdale (Raymond Bailey) and his assistant, Jane Hathaway (Nancy Kulp). BRADY BUNCH THURSDAYS A signature show from the original, "Must See TV," The Brady Bunch is a must see every Thursday. Six episodes of the country's favorite bunch, offer groovy vibes, out-of-sight fashion and one swell housekeeper. The Brady Bunch shows the lighter side of life when two families -- one made up of all females, and the other made up of all males -- come together to form the Brady Bunch. The show follows the lives of Mike (Robert Reed) and Carol Brady (Florence Henderson) and their six off-spring: Greg (Barry Williams); Marcia (Maureen McCormick), Peter (Christopher Knight); Jan (Eve Plumb); Bobby (Mike Lookinland); and Cindy (Susan Olsen). Mike and Carol juggle the busy lives of their "blended" family as they encounter everything from dating issues to stardom as a singing group. They are joined in their efforts by Alice (Ann B. Davis), the family's live-in housekeeper, who helps keep things in ship shape. PARTY CRASHER FRIDAYS Sometimes the greatest thing to happen to a party is a surprise party crasher who brings friends along. Every Friday, viewers will be treated to a different sitcom ... kind of like an end-of-the-week happy-hour celebration with a smorgasbord of options to chose from. The schedule for Party Crasher Fridays is as follows (all dates are Fridays from 9:00pm to 12:00am ET/PT): July 7 Head of the Class This sitcom from 1986, is the opposite of Welcome Back Kotter as Howard Hessman stars as Charlie Moore, a substitute teacher in charge with an overachieving class of honor students. Also features Robin Givens, Brian Robbins, Rain Pryor, Daniel J. Schneider among others as the students. July 14 Perfect Strangers Also from 1986, Larry Appleton (Mark Linn-Baker) welcomes his cousin, Balki (Bronson Pinchot) -- a young shepherd from the Mediterranean island, Mypos -- into his Chicago home. Misadventures ensue as the two try to get along with their new living situation despite their cultural differences. The other Party Crasher Fridays include: July 21 The Jeffersons July 28 Bewitched August 4 I Dream of Jeannie August 11 My Favorite Martian August 18 Happy Days August 25 Rugrats Fans can access all of their favorite Nick at Nite show information, play games and learn where their favorite classic TV stars are now by logging onto Nick-at-nite.com. |

This is GREAT!
After several months of speculation and hope, we finally have a confirmed airdate! I know USA Network hosted PS a little while ago, but I still feel it's been ages since I've seen this great show. My Friday nights were built around this early TGIF staple on ABC. Now I'm halfway through college, and can now enjoy it all over again, if only for one evening. It seems logical that Head of the Class and PS would eventually have their own back to back hour on Nick At Nite, and I hope this indeed happens, but I will be looking forward to Friday, July, 14th, right after my weekly dose of ECW on TNN! Geez, before this, I hardly felt "old" at only 20 years of age! Sorry for the rant...I'm just too excited! Later... Tony Yannuzzi IGNWrestling.com |
