Teacher Saddles Up To Avoid High Gas Prices

ARCADIA, Wis. -- Once gas prices hit $3 a gallon, a high school teacher in western Wisconsin decided to see a man about a horse.

Arcadia art teacher Carl McKeeth is riding his horse to work each day, saving him upward of $40 a week on gas.

He's also doing it to make a statement -- riding his horse to work is one way he can conserve on gasoline, he said.

It takes McKeeth an hour and 15 minutes to ride his horse from home to Arcadia High School. The principal allowed him to build a pen for his ride -- but drew the line at McKeeth's request for an electric fence.

Having gone to school where I did, I've seen teachers come to school on horseback on a few occasions personally. Entertaining...also seen people come to school on tractors.

This is just wonderful news for the auto industry. We here in the northern states are going to be hit with outrageous heating bills this winter! I have heard many economists predicting a Depression by 2010. I sure hope not!

I think that's a swell idea. What a way to save on gas. Riding horses makes me think of those wild west days when most people rode horses before cars came along.
The only drawback I can think of is imagine if a lot of people started riding horses, though? The amount of crap that would build up on the streets. Yuck!

He follows the railroad tracks. It's kind of cool

No, this guy(the mule rider) is a really good guy! I have known him for years! My husband worked with him at GM. In the words of Billy The Kid..................."I have killed a man for every year of my life excluding Indians and Mexicans"................(Quote) What a great guy!

From what I've read, he actually killed 4 men alone and another 4 with others.
Nowhere near 21! However, John Wesley Hardin did kill over 40 men.
