well when i was about 12 or 13 i had this phobia about choking so i would never swallow my food-my parents thought it was a disorder but it wasnt-but maybe subconciously it was-if that makes sense. but if the person is doing it b/c they dont want to get fat then yes its a disorder

Do you think they feel hungry if they do it to lose weight cuz the food is not going into the stomach?

You aren't actually full. But your body thinks that you are, for a short period. I understand that that's how people would cope with hunger during hard times: they'd take a small portion of their food and chew it for as long as they could. This isn't scientific. It's my observation. |

I would consider it an eating disorder because you would be making your body starve. Spitting out the food or not eating food at all or throwing up after you've eaten all is basically the same thing. You're not getting food into your body and for a long period of time that's no good at all. Unless you're talking about chewing a peice of food that feels too tough and you can't eat it. Like, I used to not like to chew steak when I was a kid and was still eating steak. Now I've stopped eating red meat altogether. If you're spitting food out because it's too tough to chew it's probably not an eating disorder. But, if you're spitting food out to keep from gaining weight, I guess you could call that an eating disorder. I'm just not sure what you would call it. I know bulimia is when you eat lots and then binge and anorexia is when you only eat small amounts or no food at all. I'm not sure, would it be a form of anorexia? I don't know.

You don't "know" she has an eating disorder unless she has told you in private, and if she did, shame on your for telling everyone.
Vivian, yes, I would consider this an eating disorder. If it's you, please talk to someone. If it's your friend, you might want to sit down and talk with her. |
