Default I really would like to know what was the story behind the writers decision to include

in the script that Moses Gunn character has lung cancer? I mean why write something like that into a script? Was this a way to work up to a eventual write off of the character? Why in the hell would a character have cancer on a Sitcom? This is so mind boggling. Where exactly were the writers trying to go with this cancer story?

I agree. The only thing I can think of is that they knew Esther was leaving the show after the season and decided to use Carl's illness as a way to excuse the Florida character.

Well I don't think that was it because in a April 1977 Issue of jet, it was stated that they were going to get married in the upcoming 1977-78 season. So That sudden exit off the show by Florida was something after April. So Retro now has something else to research-lol I have to find out when exactly did Esther decide to leave the show between May of 1977 and August of 1977

Not only that, but why would Carl lie to JJ about being wounded in service? If he has cancer, he has cancer. Eventually, everyone was going to find out.

Just as I was typing this, JJ did have a big mouth and .......

How about the bartender's face as Carl was lying to him. He's the same cat who worked in the jewelry shop when JJ and Diana were looking at rings.

Esther left the show because Elvis died.

She could not go on without the King singing "in the ghetto"

I used to always think that no one would be into this kind of TV stuff but me. I always wondered about many of the things that we discuss now on various shows. I used to say to myself, "No one notices this stuff. If I would to ever mention things like this, people would think I'm some boring ass nerd who has nothing better to do than to peep out things on television".

I guess I was wrong. I'm not the only "TV Nerd" on these sites. And it's fun

I feel the same way you do.

I also found out that I am not the only person who gets off when they see Batgirl bound and gagged.

I find myself catching every nuance of every theme song of my faves.
