Default What did you think of Florida and Carl's relationship???

I love the chemistry between Moses Gunn and Esther Rolle. The episode when they were on the couch talking was touching and looked natural. Of course, he could not replace James but I like the relationship between Carl and Florida. Too bad the relationship was more developed and storylines about them dating.

Overall, didn't like it. The Florida character loved God. Carl didn't. The writers could have brought this character in a diff. way. I actually prefer that man she met at the "Meeting Place" when Willona took her out for the night. He was damn handsome.

FUGLY!!!!! Not to mention very cranky and irritating. Even James from his grave was telling Florida "No No No, pick the other guy!!!"

I didn't like it. That scene your talking about when they were on the couch getting all touchy, feely made me uncomfortable cause it was hard for me to see Flo like that, trying to use her feminine wiles (I never used that phase before) to get a favor. I wasn't used to that Flo.

I agree with you, I think so many GT fans couldn;t see any other man with Florida but James and never gave Carl a chance. I think carl and Florida had good chemistry too. And Just think it Esther never left the show, in season 5 we would have saw a wedding instead of a 4 part episode on Penny getting abused by her mother.

So in the words of my Mom, so that means that all the ugly people in the world should be alone forever?-lol She says that to me all the time because I'm very shallow and only date pretty women.

How about when Carl grabbed Florida, she was like "It felt good". James was the last one to touch her like that. And he used to hit her on the butt.

Not for nothing but Esther Rolle was not exactly Miss America either.

If it were me I would personally rather have done a love scene with a rattlesnake.

It was never what James and Florida's relationship was, but then it probably wasn't supposed to be. Carl definitely brought out a different side to Florida with his athiesm.

Oh I agree, the man in that episode seemed more like her type. Carl seems, at least to me, to be just saying the lines, no kind of connection to Flo like the other man had. I don't think James would have liked Carl.

I really think the writers on this show after John Amos left got lazy. JMO!

Esther Rolle may not been a Hollywood glamor type. Ms. Rolle was the heart and soul of Good Times. We seen how lost the show was when John Amos was written out but when Esther Rolle left the show after the 76-77 season there was a huge hole left the following season with just J.J., Thelma and Michael floundering through life. When Esther came back in the Fall of 1978 she received a five minute standing ovation when she made her first entrance. She was a strong woman with strong convictions. If it wasn't for her when she stood up to be counted Good Times would had been another Amos and Andy. She wanted the show to entertaining but with positive values especially for young people. Again, Ms. Rolle may not been a raving beauty on the outside but she definitely had a heart of gold.
