Default Help me understand this lyric!

Shades Of The Past, by Debbie Gibson.

Lyric:" Love is not red or white, but you've brought me pink roses tonight." What does she mean by this lyric? This lyric is making me scratch my head. Help me out!

(It should have read "pink" instead of red!) (sorry)

MMmm, let me see: I think, now this is just my opinion, the fact that red roses signify love and white ones signify, I can't remember, isn't it death!!?? I know yellow means friendship. She is glad that red ones were given to her instead of white!!!???

Actually, yellow represent jealousy (why...I don't know), but pink are for friendship or "interest" - I think you're right about the white being death.

I can't quite figure out that lyric either. Maybe if we saw the entire song lyrics, the chorus and other stanzas might help us figure that particular one out for you Janice.

Thanx tripper for pointing that out...other posters like to be rude and shoot you down for being wrong. I like you so much Tripper. Take care and again, congrats on that job!!

This is just my thoughts on it. I'm not sure if I'm right or not, but I think the pink roses could mean like something between life and death, like a rebirth/reincarnation thing. Maybe it's like she's saying she's made over her soul as a person or is trying to become a better person. I'm just guessing here.

Default Here are the full lyrics!

Red as the roses come
My love it never was
Dark as the evening sky
We let love pass us by
I was caught in the middle
Somewhere in the gray
Now it's time to leave that all behind
My uncertain yesterdays

Chorus:
Now it's black or white
Now it's wrong or right
I can't live without you here
Shades of the past are long gone
I've got one thing on my mind...
There's a choice to make
There'll be no mistake
The time has come around
I'm leaving no middle ground
...let my heart be the only sound

Verse 2:
Pink is not red or white
But you brought me pink roses tonight
And i got to thinking to myself
Oh the time is right
A promise is stronger
Than a whisper
So i say "goodbye" to our yesterdays
And leave behind those shades of gray

Chorus

Chorus

Chorus

...let my heart be the only, only sound
(black or white, wrong or right)
Oh there's a choice to make
There'll be no mistake
The time has come around
I'm leaving no middle ground
...let my heart be the only (only) sound
