the L.A. 80's hairmetal scene

not comparing groups because I know most people prefer Metallica but a few nights ago, I saw a special about Metallica's roots on VH1, and in it the narrator was bashing the L.A. scene of the early 80's big time when talking about Metallica and the era, showing clips from other bands from L.A. that were big in the 80's.

That kinda pisses me off because you'd think they'd realize a lot of their older fans also like groups like Motley Crue and Ratt instead of trashing their 80's competition. Personally, I liked groups like Crue and Ratt more than Metallica. I mean, you won't see a special about Madonna that would trash "80's rivals" like Cyndi Lauper and Paula Abdul because they'd make the assumption older Madonna fans also like Cyndi and Paula, so what was the deal to trash all the other L.A. bands on a Metallica special?

I think people had this idea that Metallica were the "real deal" only because they had more attitude and this hardcore "No BS" kind of deal, but because Motley Crue, Ratt, and Poison wore makeup, they "weren't" the real deal, only because these people seemed to forget that androgyny was always a part of rock and roll as anything (Little Richard, the Beatles, the New York Dolls). Metallica may have played heavier music, but it didn't make the L.A. dudes any less important. Sleaze, raunch, and trash have always been part of the scene. Motley Crue's intent was to revitalize the whole power-pop hard rock scene of 70's bands like Sweet.

Btw, Slayer, an L.A. band, wore makeup in their early days.
