Default Shows hated by critics, but loved by viewers

Name some of the shows that were absolutely reviled by critics but were enjoyed by audience's and had successful runs anyway.

1. Yes Dear (never watched it, but hear the critics despise it)
2. Full House
3. According to Jim

I think a big one here would be Three's Comapny. Critics never cared at all for that show, but it had its strong following.

Two of the biggest ones were on CBS at one point of time or another: Gilligan's Island and The Dukes of Hazzard. The shows were so critically bad, CBS itself hated those shows, but they quickly changed their tune when the ratings came out. Gilligan's (RIP Bob Denver) got a raw deal of the expansion of Gunsmoke to a full hour in 1967, and Gilligan's was still successful enough to run at least another 3-4 years. As for the Dukes, the one-year departure of Tom Wopat and John Schneider basically killed the success of that show, and if watch the last two seasons of Dukes, the writing got even goofier.

Since Bob Denver's death today (R.I.P. Bob) reminded me alot about "Gilligan's Island," I guess we can add that show to the list.

The critics hated that show when it originally aired, but it became one of the greatest all time favorites in syndication, and will continue to be a fan fave worldwide for years to come.

The critics always hated The Beverly Hillbillies and never understood how it became the #1 show on tv.

To go along with my above quote about CBS, I remember watching the E! True Hollywood Story on the Hillbillies, and CBS executives very critical of the show as well, until of course, the ratings came and it was the #1 show on TV at one point, and was at least in the top 10 in all nine years of its original run.

when "MASH" debuted, Time magazine called it "the biggest dissapointment of the 1972-73 fall season"

I think critics also didn't like "All in the Family" when it first started.

Yes, it was labeled as "vulgar TV" in the beginning, but all that changed when the show swept the Emmy's that season.

I don't think that's based on how bad or good Buffy was or not. Buffy suffered the fate of being on two smaller networks which don't have the same amounts of advertising money as the four big networks. Notice UPN and The WB never get any serious recognition come Emmy time .
