Default Why give the Fish character his own show in 1977 if he was still going to be making

apperances on Barney Miller?-lol I read in the TV Directory of Primetime TV shows that he appeared more than once on Barney Miller while the spinoff Fish was still on the air-lol That was a little unusual

That's true, and I know he made at least one appearance in the 80s(probably 81 or 82?) where he came to visit and ended up dismantled a bomb or something before it went off. Barney said, "Thanks Fish for letting us remember how it's really done"-lol

I don't have a problem with it considering it was like free promotion for his own show.

I think the only other time a character that was spinned off and return to the parent show as a Guest while the spinoff was still on the air was George and Weezie returning to All in the Family

Good question, I can't seem to think of any others.

Lionel never returned to AITF. George returned in 1978 and Louise returned in 1979

yes he did. In the episode where Mike & Gloria bought the Jeffersons house and Archie & Edith were having a morgage burning party, Mike was talking on the phone to him, and after he hung up, they showed Lionel in the Jeffersons apartment. So, he didn't visit the Bunkers, or anything like that. But he still returned to the show.

I don;t count that as a return. A return would have been Lionel at the Bunkerts House like George and Louise was in 78 and 79.

maybe, but Mike Evans taped the scene for "A.I.T.F." so I count it!

And, what was the episode where Louise returned?

IN the Spring of 1979, the episode I think was called Next door Neighbors. It's the episode when the new Black Couple moved in

my memory must be failing. (being 47 will do that!) I remember seeing that one, but I don't remember Louise in it. Then again; I only saw it once, years ago when it first aired.

Was George also in it?

Ok the episode was-"The Family Next Door" and Louise was in the very beginning of the episode. She didn;t come threw the Front Door, she knocked on the Kitchen Door like she still lived next door-lol George wasn;t in that episode he was just mentioned. Kind of like when he returned, Louise was just mentioned.
