Arrow Hurricane Katrina Donation Thread

MsOrange approached me with a wonderful idea of having a sticky thread for links to organizations to contribute to help with the relief effort for the victims of Katrina.

Please add your own links.

I talked on Friday to the guy who runs the particular location I work at. I suggested that each department has a contest to see who can raise the most money for hurricane relief. He's seriously considering it (there is already a donation box at the front desk).

I very badly want to help with the disaster relief, but I have absolutely no money to donate (currently unemployed). However, I do have plenty of clothing and canned foods. Does anyone know if they are accepting these things and if so where do I take them? I really want to help in any way that I can.

I'm not sure where to donate food, other than your local food bank. Try and find out whether or not they're sending food to Katrina victims.

You also might see about donating blood, since they're in as much need for it right now as they are cash donations. I would, but they won't take my diseased, heavily medicated blood. Picky, picky!

check with your local churches, I know a lot of them around here are having can drives, donations centers, etc. set up and are going to drive a truck down full of food/water/baby supplies/ cleaning products etc.. so maybe there is a church in your neck of the woods that's doing the same thing.

Here's one I came across over at another board.

Network for Good. It has a comprehensive list of sites you can help in getting relief to those who need it. It also has links if you want to help the four-legged furry friends while they struggle to survive from this tragedy.

Do you have to write a check or can you donate/ mail cash?

And is there anything about donating clothes? I just cleaned out my closet and I have a huge bag full of clothes.

I'm so glad I'm going to be working again. I start at the beginning of a new pay period, so in a couple of weeks, I'll be getting as a cheque off to them for as much as I can.
