Lawsuit Settled Over Lil' Flip Track

A lawsuit over rapper Lil' Flip's hit track "Game Over" has been settled after a year-long legal battle.

Video game giant Namco filed a $10 million lawsuit against Sony BMG in September, claiming that Lil' Flip's song violated used sounds from the company's classic games Pac Man and Ms. Pac Man without permission.

The lawsuit stated that the song was never cleared and Namco objected to gun and drug references and profanity contained in the song, according to AllHipHop.com.

The lawsuit was filed months before a federal appeals court in Cincinnati, Ohio, ruled that artists should pay for every sample included in their work, including short snippets, whether they're distinguishable or not.

The law previously allowed for some flexibility in regards to sampling, but that was struck down, when federal laws were passed to curb piracy of digital recordings.

According to this article, Lil' Flip's "Game Over" using sound effects for a "Ms. Pac-Man". This was 21 years after Buckner & Garcia's "Pac-Man Fever" using the another sound effect for a "Pac-Man" game. I don't even hear Lil' Flip's "Game Over" compared to Buckner & Garcia's "Pac-Man Fever". Is that true?

I like Game Over song too. I didn't know he didn't pay for the Pac Man sample. Rappers know they're supposed to pay for the music they sample or they'll get sued if they don't pay. That's old news. Lil Flip is ******** anyway. This isn't the first time a rapper has sampled a video game in a song. Beanie Siegel sampled Pac Man sound effects on his song Mac Man. Cocoa Brovaz aka Smif N Wessun sampled Super Mario Bros video game sound effects on their song Super Brooklyn. Super Brooklyn song is ill because of the video game sample.
