Question You Bet Your Life

I'm a big fan of "You Bet Your Life", and I have quite a few episodes. The problem is that I can't find a reputable episode guide on this show. Any ideas from collectors of this gggrrrreeeeaaatttt show?

Thanks!

Even http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionC...950/index.html, which has lots of rarities, doesn't have it.

One of Groucho's last projects before his death 28 years ago (I believe we can safely assume it was BEFORE his death.) was a book about the show called The Secret Word is Groucho. As you can imagine, it was full of humorous reminiscences, but I don't believe there was any sort of extensive episode guide.

Thanks, but those are for the OTR shows.

There were something like 258 TV shows of "You Bet Your Life". It's odd that there isn't something more on them on-line SOMEWHERE.

The shows listed are from the radio series that preceded it's introduction to television. I have over 100 of the radio shows in mp3 format. By the late 40's Groucho's career was near it's end and NBC took a chance with this series on radio. It was to show the deadly wit of Groucho but was really scripted, as Groucho knew in advance the occupations of the guests and had punch lines ready. The show became popular and with the advent of the little screen, many of the shows that were popular on radio were adapted for Tv, easier then doing original programing.

One that had a name change before hitting the boob tubes was My Favorite Husband, starring Lucille Ball, Ball refused to do the show on tv unless the leading male character was her Cuban born husband husband who spoke poor English, The suits at CBS wanted her and met her demands. Thus legends are born.

Jack Webb boucned around on radio for years with one bust after another. His bland speaking voice just didn't hit it with the audience. He wrote the script and directed dragnet and history was made with success on radio and twice on Tv.

Some radio big, big hits died on Tv, such as Fibber McGee and Molly, Aldrich Family, Duffy's Tavern, and the Great Gildersleeve.

That's it for the history lesson of today. A spot quiz will be in order for tomorrow.

Your trivia quiz for today. What radio comedy was so popular that it ran on both radio and tv at the same time. Began on radio in the late 40's and introduced to tv in 1952.

According to one article I read (after seeing your initial post), one of the guys involved on the show actually kept a record of all the contestants and the secret words. That would probably be the closest thing to an episode guide, if it's ever been typed up for the web. I was surprised that Marx Brothers and Groucho sites didn't have something like an episode guide for this show - it's such a piece of television history.
