Default ODAAT- Were you the only one who liked it?

This show seemed to have a very bad reputation because of Bonnie Franklin and her acting. Even in it's prime the show had a lot of complaints and jokes about Bonnie Franklin and also for being one of the most annoying sitcoms of all time (look at jumptheshark.com).

I loved this show, I think it is my favorite sitcom from childhood. I would watch it 6 days a week. I would watch it in primetime, and then five days a week at 5:30 because it came on before the 6:00 news. A station also showed it at 7:30 PM too, and I'd watch it again. It is hard to believe that you could once easily find this show like you can today with a rerun of Seinfeld, Friends, or Yes, Dear.

Anyway, were you the only one in your household that liked ODAAT? My older sister just HATED it!! "How can you keep watching this stupid show over and over?" "I hate that annoying Bonnie Franklin!" "I hate that druggie Mackenzie Phillips" "I hate this stupid show, why don't they take this thing off and show something else, GOODDDD!"

My mother would say "Let her watch something else. You must've seen every episode 10 times. You can watch it tomorrow. You like to hog the TV with this one program. There are other shows to watch. SIGH!"

Nobody in my house except myself liked ODAAT. In a way this show seems to be like Maude. Both shows were huge, but you liked them or you didn't. There just didn't seem to be any middle ground. Since a lot of people seemed to hate this show I think that is why the syndication never really caught on big for this show.

Did anybody else have trouble watching ODAAT at their house?

Actually everyone in my family liked it, my mom just didn't like Bonnie Franklin, she couldn't stand her and still can't. Most of my friends at the time liked it also. The show was very popular in my neck of the woods.

My brother always said that "Bonnie Franklin looks like she has bad breath."

No one in my family really remembers the show and the only reason I know about it is because of this site and because I'm a HUGE TV fan who researches everything to death if it interests me just the least little bit...

Anyway, I own the 1st season on DVD and that's all I've ever seen of the show because I can't get Antenna TV. I'd love for the entire show to be released on DVD---I'd buy it on day one.

Well she didn't have a very attractive looking mouth!!!! She had a big wide mouth!! Not sexy big lips type of big mouth. I'm talking thin lips but a big wide mouth!!! Like a big Mouth Bass fish!! And she had that HUGE masculine cleft chin too. Which was strange on a tiny girl with a small face!!!! And when she talked to someone her lips and chin were like RIGHT up close in their face!!!!!

I know!!! We talked about this before! Should one of us try to PM or Email seventies_sitcom? See If they are still into ODAAT? Watching it on Antenna? I'd love to have he/or she join in our conversations here!

One of my brothers was a big fan but I didn't care for it, primarily due to the theme song.

I honestly think I was a young adult during its original run, and I remember watching and liking it, but being young, working, and having a husband who positively wouldn't have liked watching, I don't remember seeing all the episodes, but some randomly recollect to me as I watch now. I like that I can say I've seen all the seasons (save for 1 or 2 episodes that didn't tape).

Props to the fact we now have dvr's, the internet and tv's in every room...we can each watch what we want/like that the other doesn't want any parts of!!! LOL

I think the theme song is OK, but I don't like the women who sing the lyrics. The accent in their voices annoys me.

To answer the topic question- Since the show ran for 9 years in the cutthroat era of only 3 networks, when it was much harder to get and stay on the air, I'm going to say no.

I loved One Day At A Time, I grew up with that show. I just wish that they would sell the complete series so that I would be able to watch it..

I saw it for the first time when Antenna TV started showing it back in the spring and saw a few episodes here and there and from what I saw I liked it. But I quit watching after those idiots started crunching credits toward the end of June. I sure hope Shout will release a complete series DVD set so I can get more exposure to it.

I usually don't mind the Antenna credit crunches that much. But in the case of ODAAT , I really miss the closing music!!! It's no singing, it's instrumental with IDK what musical instrument? Like a trumpet, trombone, maybe a saxophone ? Does anyone know? Remember what instrument that was that they played in the closing music?

It sort of sounds like a saxophone. At least that would be my guess.
