I can't remember what show it was, but someone said that when approached to do the L&S spin-off (at first) Cindy Williams didn't want to do it so another actress was hired to do the pilot (which was never seen). Obviously CW changed her mind. Does anyone know who the actress was that was the "second" Shirley?

i think they tell that part of the story on the Penny Marshall Intimate Portrait, and on her A&E Biography (among other places) - but I'm drawing a blank right now

When Cindy Williams initially turned the project down, Penny Marshall approached Gilda Radner to be Shirley Feeney. Gilda however, was under contract to SNL and didn't want to leave.

I always sort of wondered what Gilda's interpretation of Shirley would have been like, and if the behind the scenes drama would have been as intense as it was with Cindy Williams.

Wow, I'm a LAS buff and I didn't know that. That's very interesting to think about. How long would the show have run if Gilda stayed on past 1983...when exactly did her illness start?

Gilda became ill in 1986. She passed away in 1989 after being in remission in 1988.

Yeah, that was so sad. I still haven't watched the Gilda movie and I taped it several years ago, lol. I think she was the best player on SNL

Can anyone tell me what was the name of the beer the ladies capped at Shotz Brewery? Our company is having a golf outing in 2 weeks and our theme is the 70's. I have decided to do Laverne & Shirley. We are supposed to decorate our golf carts and I wanted to use empty beer bottles with the name of the beer they capped in the show by putting stickers on them with the name! Can anyone please help me!
